Well, September kicked off with a BANG-
We had an insane storm roll through on a Thursday night – the weather people didn’t officially declare a tornado for us, but they declared tornados touched down all around us. (It was WILD.)
Thankfully, we didn’t have any damage from the storm (our street definitely looked like a tornado went through though!) But the worst part was, it knocked out our power and we were without electricity from Thursday night until Sunday morning.
The worst part was: I had JUST gone grocery shopping, and picked up food for TWO WEEKS about 3 hours before the storm hit. Our fridge and freezer were PACKED and we lost EVERYTHING. I was devastated (it’s a long story, but I hadn’t intended to go grocery shopping until Friday, but Leander really wanted a specific dinner, and since Derrick was out of town (another piece to this crazy puzzle), I said sure, let’s do it, so we went shopping early – if I had stuck to my original plan, losing everything in our fridge and freezer wouldn’t have hurt QUITE so bad.)
We had no idea when our power would come back on though, so once Derrick got home from his work-trip, we made the sporadic decision to just go to the Lake for the weekend (and I’m really thankful we did – it was a great, fun weekend, that ended up being our last of the season as we were sick when we were supposed to go at the beginning of October!)
Talk about a way to kick off the month.
Moments of note this month:
(0:08) The storm of the century
(1:08) Time at the lake house
(2:31) Braelynn gets flipped out of the tube for the first time!
(5:43) The Calvary Chapel Women’s Retreat weekend – my Mom was the speaker this year!
(7:19) Braelynn’s latest (largest) crochet project
(7:35) Nathan’s 30th birthday party – medieval themed, complete with sword fighting, axe throwing, and lots of fun costumes!
(10:45) Father Son Camp – Derrick took Braelynn to Father Daughter Camp earlier in the summer and he told Leander he was finally old enough to go this year too. They had an AMAZING day shooting guns, bow and arrow, hanging out with the other guys (several friends from both our church at home and church at the lake were there), but the HIGHLIGHT of the day was when Leander was able to work up the courage to do the zip line!! He’s notoriously afraid of heights, so I was surprised to hear that he even wanted to try it – he got all harnessed up and made it to the top of the tower, before realizing just how high he was and that he actually had to step off the ledge. It took him three tries – and the third time, he actually kind of slipped and thus “fell” off the bar he was sitting on – but it was the perfect push. He LOVED the experience and did it a total of EIGHT TIMES that day!
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our September looked like!
