Only the BEST couples’ stories begin with them meeting at a wedding. I might be a little biased since that’s exactly how my husband and I met, but I stand by it. There’s just something about that setting – everyone dressed up and celebrating love – that seems to set the stage for something magical to happen.
And that’s exactly how Carly and Taylor’s story began too.

The father of the bride told the story of that first night: at some point during the reception, he looked out and noticed Carly and Taylor weren’t on the dance floor anymore. They’d wandered off to sit on a hill outside together, just talking. And talking. And talking.

That’s really all it took. They hit it off that night and never looked back.

Carly and Taylor dated for about five years, and somewhere in there, Carly knew a proposal would be coming eventually. They’d even picked out the engagement ring together. But what she didn’t know was when.

In April 2025, they headed up to Carly’s family camp in Elk County for a weekend away. They had taken a side-by-side out to the top of the mountain to enjoy the view, when Taylor got down on one knee and asked Carly to marry him. He’d already asked her dad for his blessing, but even her family had no idea it was happening that particular weekend. Needless to say: Carly was genuinely and completely surprised. They rode back down the mountain engaged and got to celebrate with family waiting for them at the camp.

Carly and Taylor aren’t big into social media, and that shaped how they approached their wedding day. They weren’t chasing trends or planning around what would look good online. They wanted a more traditional wedding day – one built around the people in the room and the moments they’d actually want to look back on for years to come.

And it’s a good thing they cared more about the memories than the forecast, because this was one of the wildest weather weeks I’ve ever covered.

Earlier in the week, we were sitting under a heat dome. Then came a stretch of thick, heavy smoke drifting in from the Canadian wildfires, bad enough that air quality alerts were telling people not to spend any real time outside at all. Then, right as the calendar turned to their wedding day, the forecast shifted again: severe thunderstorms, and even the possibility of tornados, timed almost exactly with the ceremony.

Carly and Taylor had planned an outdoor ceremony, an outdoor cocktail hour, and a tented reception, so this was the kind of forecast that could rattle anyone.

Storms did roll through the area and two tornados actually did touch down in the south-western PA area. But at The Grand Estate, aside from a quick round of thunder in the morning and one heavy but short downpour around lunchtime, the day stayed dry. Somehow, almost unbelievably, the sun came out at exactly the right moments.
Their outdoor ceremony went on as planned.
Cocktail hour got moved inside out of caution, and looking back, they probably could have kept it outside after all.
A light sprinkle passed through during dinner, but by then, it didn’t matter one bit.

It was a beautiful, wonderful memorable day that flew by so fast, but was absolutely marvelous.
