Highlight of the Week
Derrick finally bought his big, beautiful, new TV. If you know Derrick, you know he loves new technology – 7.1 surround sound, 4K video – if he can upgrade it, he wants to. He has been wanting a 4K TV for about 2 years now and has been diligently saving the money he’d get for birthdays & Christmas. When he first started looking into them & picking out the specs that he wanted, the prices were pretty astronomical. He knew that the prices would drop on them eventually & when they fell into a “reasonable” price range, he would be ready. Well, this weekend, it happened. The TV he’d spent hours researching & looking into, finally came down in price & he went out and bought it. He & my brother Steve are setting it up as I type this. He’s like a kid in a candy store – so happy. Like I said, he’s been saving for this purchase for 2 years and he’s so excited to finally have it!
Yes, This Happened
- Braelynn has been waking up earlier and earlier every day. Combined with an infant who doesn’t exactly sleep well through the night, it has made for some very challenging mornings for Mama. Half the time, it feels like Leander & I are finally falling asleep, when Braelynn waltzes in & claims it’s time to start the day. Well, on Thursday morning, instead of coming in to see me as soon as she woke up, she went into the bathroom. Going potty is completely necessary & fine – she can do that by herself, but after going potty, she decided to grab my makeup bag & give herself a makeover. She came into my room a few minutes later, with mascara painted all over her eyelashes and eyebrows, lipstick smeared all over her lips & cheeks, and eye shadow everywhere. It was quite the sight!
- Yep, Leander is still slightly confused between his days & his nights. He seems to wake up around 3am most nights and be wide awake! He wants to smile & laugh at me, which is so cute, but not at 3am! Hopefully, he’ll figure out soon that he’s supposed to do that smiling & laughing cute stuff during the day & all of his sleeping at night – until then, I’ll just be drinking extra cups of coffee & looking a little more tired than usual.
- So, we’re supposed to be experiencing this giant winter apocalypse right now – and it’s raining. All week long they’ve been predicting huge amounts of snow & as of right now, it looks like we’re probably not going to get anything (but rain). I’m so disappointed.
- Last night, Braelynn climbed up onto Derrick’s lap & said, “Daddy, I want to marry you.” He smiled and said, “You can’t marry me, I’m already married to your Mommy.” She responded, “No Daddy! I want to marry you!” It was so sweet!!
- Braelynn’s birthday is creeping up on us! I knew it would fly up really fast after Leander was born & Christmas, but time has truly been on overdrive the last few weeks! With the help of my sister Ruby, we’ve been diligently prepping for her party next week – it’s Rapunzel-themed! But that’s all I’m saying! We have some fun & exciting things planned – it’s going to be so much fun!
- This week, during one particularly productive day, Braelynn asked me, “Mommy, are you sick?” Confused, I responded, “No, why do you think I’m sick?” To which she answered, “You’re doing so many things today!”
Feeling Blessed
I had my 6-week postpartum checkup with the midwives this week. It’s been a whole 6 weeks since I gave birth to Leander – can you believe that?! It’s flown by so fast!! I’m not going to lie: going down to The Midwife Center one last time was a little sad. I absolutely loved my experience with the midwives & felt like they became my friends – so it was sad to go see them one last time & know that I didn’t have another appointment coming up next week. What a weird feeling.
I’m so so so thankful for the incredible care I had under the midwives! I never once felt unseen, or misunderstood, or uncared for. Every single time I stepped into that building, I felt uplifted, encouraged, and like I was their only patient. Their positivity was contagious and I looked forward to my appointments there! I literally cannot say enough positive things about them – I am beyond thankful for my entire experience at The Midwife Center, from start to finish.
If you missed it, I wrote out Leander’s entire birth story on my blog this past week! You can go back & read it here & here (it’s 2 parts because it’s pretty long).
