You know this is your favorite blog post of the entire year – go ahead! You can admit it!
It’s okay because – it’s my favorite post too.
It’s funny – every year I sit down to prep this particular blog post & I have the same thought: “What if I don’t have any ‘blooper’ images from this year?” and “What if I don’t have enough ‘funny’ images to put together a whole post?” And every year I find myself pleasantly surprised & absolutely shocked at the amount of outtakes I have from over the course of the previous year.
Let’s be honest: I take 52 weekly photos – there is bound to be some good stuff, right?
And this year is no exception: I’ve got the good stuff!
What started as an exercise in stretching my creativity & simply taking photos of our dog on a weekly basis has turned into so much more. I now see these weekly photos as a beautiful documentation of our lives – it’s not just Abby (although, she’s obviously the star), but it’s Brealynn & Leander. You can literally watch our sweet babies grow up thru these images. It’s terrible & awful but precious & priceless.
I did not take 52 Abby’s Saturday images this year – I did take a few weeks off of blogging after Leander was born. I had a bunch of blog posts pre-written, but once those ran out, I realized that I simply needed some more time to adjust to having 2 kids. And guess what? That’s the beauty of owning my own business – I can do that! And that’s okay!
Speaking of 2 kids: my Abby’s Saturday posts got an upgrade in 2019 – Leander!! I really wasn’t sure what adding a second kiddo into the mix would look like & honestly, it’s taken the challenge of taking these photos to a whole new level – but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. And oh boy, are these photos a challenge!! Not just to think up the ideas & concepts, but to execute them – oh my goodness. If you ever think that taking these photos is easy – think again. If these outtakes don’t prove that this task is not an easy one, I don’t know what else will. These outtakes will prove something else though – that even though these photos are a massive challenge – they’re also a lot of fun.
To this point, I have published 280 Abby’s Saturday photos – but there are literally thousands of images that I take & that never get posted. Some are simply not good photos, some concepts I have just don’t work out, sometimes I can’t get all parties to cooperate, and then some photos end up in the “blooper reel” – and that’s what today is all about! ENJOY a little peek “behind-the-scenes” of what really happens behind the curtain of these Abby’s Saturday posts!
Disclaimer: No Black Labs, toddlers, or infants were hurt or injured in any way due to the circumstances of these photos – I promise.
And one more thing: after looking thru today’s post, you’ll definitely want to go back & see the Blooper Reels I’ve posted over the last 3 years! Not only are they hilarious, but Braelynn is SO tiny! I’m suddenly so thankful for these weekly photos of our lovable (and so patient & tolerating) pup & our quickly growing sweet girl & now baby boy!

(The following photos are shown in the order that I took them throughout the year, so kicking things off with January & ending with the very last photos I took of Abby, Braelynn, and Leander!)
This is from the very first set of photos I took of Abby, Braelynn, and Leander! Braelynn’s face quite accurately describes the level of difficulty I realized I was in for!
Butt.
No Photoshop necessary for this delicacy.
We had a ton of fun tossing treats to Abby & trying to capture her mid-air! It’s much harder than it looks, but Braelynn loved being my treat tosser!!
Leander’s first “solo” Abby’s Saturday photo – he was SO impressed.
“Wait, you’re trying to take a photo without me?”
I took a series of self-portrait photos which never ended up as an Abby’s Saturday post – let me show you why..
Turns out, Abby thought (and still thinks) that Leander is quite tasty! Leander was not (and still is not) impressed!
Photos are not always easy – sometimes they’re downright hard!
“DAD! How could you let her lick me?!”
Move over Braelynn & Leander – Abby is still a super-model.
The moment the neighbor let’s their dogs out & suddenly the photo session is over.
Aww – they’re cute.
Too close to the fire.
Yes, Leander is eating a clump of grass – I’m a great Mother.
Braelynn’s face says it all.
The day I gave Leander a dog treat –
“Why do I have to sit next to her? She’s got a bad attitude.”
“Is this too close?”
If this isn’t the definition of “photographer’s kid’s smiles” – I don’t know what is!
“What’s he doing back there?”
Peek-a-boo.
Leander has the most epic hair!
Okay, now that you’re hooked, you know you want to go back & see the bloopers/outtakes from the last 3 years!
