THE EASY WAY TO FOLLOW YOUR FAVORITE BLOGGERS
updated: April 3, 2020
This is going to sound crazy, but here’s my story:
When I was a teenager, I was introduced to the wonderful world of blogging. One of the first blogs I started reading and following on a regular basis was a girl named Kristen Leigh, who would one day become my wedding photographer. That’s how personally I connected with her thru her blog: when Derrick & I got engaged, I didn’t even consider another photographer, I had to have Kristen. To this day, I still voraciously read her blogs & her Instagram posts!
Along with Kristen, I also found and began following a handful of other photography blogs, like Me Ra Koh, Jessica Claire, and [b]ecker (all photographers I continue to follow to this day). From them, I not only learned so much, but were introduced to other photographers. They would reference others in their posts and I would click through to find them! And then, I’d begin to follow their blogs! Before I realized what was happening, I had a list of 50+ blogs I wanted to follow.
Here’s how I “followed” everyone (this is great, you’ll love this):
I created a bookmark folder called “photographers” and bookmarked every blog I wanted to follow in that folder.
Every single day (sometimes multiple times a day), I would click through that folder and visit each blog to see if there were any updates!
Time consuming? Extremely. Did all of those photographers love me though? Absolutely! I was boosting their page visits immensely! But my system was flawed. It simply wasn’t efficient! And, after a few months of this process, it was getting tedious.
Enter the RSS Reader.
I found Google Reader and my life changed. Suddenly, there was a place to compile all of my favorite blogs into one spot & it would let me know when there were updates!! One site to visit! No more opening 50+ tabs at a time to check to see if anything new had been posted! This was amazing!! I was in love with blogs again!
And then, Google Reader shut down. You literally cannot believe my devastation. For some unknown reason, Google decided to close out it’s Reader and I was forced to find something similar.
Enter BlogLovin’!
BlogLovin’ is currently the most popular RSS Reader out there and for good reason! It is very simple to use, it benefits both the reader and the blog, it makes recommendations based on what you follow so you can find new content, it has an app: so you can read on your phone – it is amazing!
Here’s an example of what my BlogLovin’ homepage looks like:
As you can see, one of my favorite parts is the post previews! I can decide if it’s actually a post I want to read or not! If I decide I am interested (because I definitely do want to see photos from Katelyn James’ trip to Hawaii!), clicking on that post will open a new window with her website & blog embedded in the BlogLovin’ website! It’s so fun! It’s super easy then to read her post, leave her a comment, and even save it if it’s information I want to come back and re-read! Then, it gives me the option of moving on to the next post, so I don’t have to go back & forth!
Here! See for yourself:
Isn’t that fun? Maybe you’re like me & have blogs you’d love to follow, but don’t have time to visit them every day & so you simply forget about then – this is where BlogLovin’ can help! It makes reading and keeping up with your favorite blogs so easy!
But don’t just take my word for it, see for yourself!
And here – I’ll start you off! Clicking below will take you to my profile! I’d love to be the first blog you follow!
Questions? I’m no expert, but I promise to do my best to try!
Tips? Maybe you’ve picked up a handy little trick that helps in this whole process!
