For the last 2 years I have entered the Shoot & Share Photo Contest, put on by the fabulous people over at PASS.
I love it because it’s completely and utterly 100% free and fair.
Any photographer is able to submit up to 40 images across a variety of categories – most having to do with weddings – but also including categories like maternity, family, and kiddo photos. The amazing people behind the contest then load all of the images into the database & for a whole month, voting is open.
How is it fair? There are no logos, no watermarks, no names associated with any of the images. As each page refreshes – you are shown 4 random images within a certain category & you simply pick the image that you like the best out of those 4. The page then refreshes and you get 4 more new images from another category. And the process goes on. It is more addicting than chocolate or potato chips.
Last year, I entered 40 images and had 2 images place in the top 30%, 1 image place in the top 20%, and 1 image that placed in the top 100 images of it’s category. I was floored. Something like 26,000 images were submitted into this contest last year! And one of my images was in the top 100 of it’s category? Wow.
So, this year, I was a little more prepared – way more pumped – and had a such a ridiculous time trying to narrow my favorite images down to just 40 from the whole year. I was expecting about the same amount of people to enter the contest as last year – I figured I would be competing against somewhere around 30,000 photos.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The contest literally exploded this year. just shy of 111,000 photos were submitted by almost 74,000 photographers! That’s more than double the amount of photographers who entered than there were even images last year!
Over 23 million votes were cast.
With so many images – so many incredible photographers, I hardly had faith that any of my images would even make it through the first round! But when they published the results a few weeks ago – I was so excited to see that 2 of my images made it into the top 20% of their categories! That may not seem like a lot – 2 images out of the 40 I submitted – but let me say again – almost one hundred and eleven thousand images were submitted this year!!
So, I’m just so excited! I want to show off my top photos!
I included not only my top 20% photos, but also the ones that made it more than half way thru the contest!
