As someone who has spent the last 15 (almost 16!) years photographing weddings and engagements, I am no stranger to capturing celebrations. But last week, I had the immense honor of photographing my first ever Bat Mitzvah in Pittsburgh and wow, what an incredible celebration!
From the moment I walked into the room, you could just feel the energy and excitement and anticipation buzzing around. Friends and family had gathered not just to enjoy a party, but a significant rite of passage for Rose. So, similar to wedding day celebrations, my goal for the evening was simple: document the joy, the fun, and the immense love that everyone in the room had for Rose.
While last Thursday evening wasn’t the full Bat Mitzvah service, the evening was still rich with symbolism, emotion, tradition, and fun! Rose gave a beautiful, touching speech, lit candles and prolifically thanked the most important people in her life, and then DJ Willy from 2nd ii None had the dance floor hopping until the very last song.
As I’ve been editing the images from the evening, I can’t help but reflect on the honor it was to be trusted to capture such a milestone event. I met Danielle, Jacob, Rose, and their families last year when I did family photos celebrating Jacob’s Bar Mitzvah, so it was my absolute privilege to be invited back into their family to celebrate Rose this summer.
Capturing Rose’s Bat Mitzvah celebration was more than just snapping photos of a pretty event – it was about telling the story of a girl stepping into a new chapter of her life, surrounded by love, tradition, and her favorite people. I left with a deep appreciation for the beauty of this milestone celebration and send my BEST wishes to Rose and her entire family!

Cara is the absolute magic of capturing every significant minute, every tiny part of the celebration while making herself almost invisible it is a pleasure and honor to have her document Rose’s and our journey.
Cara you are the best!
