We tackled so many projects when we first moved into our house – gutting the 2nd floor, all new flooring, drywall, molding, paint. We did a lot (you can see before & afters of both the downstairs & upstairs here!)
If you followed along with those posts tho, you might have noticed that I didn’t say too much of anything about the bathroom! So, here we go! Our bathroom story:
Half of the bathroom is amazing: we love the tile-work that was done in the shower – it looks so luxurious! It’s super easy to clean and simply incredible.
And then you had the opposite side of the bathroom – the sink & mirror area. It looked like it was taken straight out of an airplane. It was so small and strange! No countertop – nowhere to put your toothbrush or straightening iron or even soap! Unfortunately, it had to go!
The process of renovating that area was a little easier said than done though. It was quite the process! My Grandparents graciously offered to buy us a new vanity as our “new house” present & so we were on the lookout for one that we liked. The wall the vanity goes on is actually the perfect width for a double sink and that’s something that’s been on our wish-list for such a long time! Over Veteran’s Day, we found one with a great price online and ordered it! Unfortunately, with buying it online, they simply delivered it “over the threshold” and we had to take it from there.
Thanksgiving morning, my Dad & Steve came over to help move it upstairs (after it lived in our entry-way for a few days). I “forgot” to tell them that the paperwork said it weighed about 300 lbs! They were troopers tho and got it up the stairs! We weren’t ready to actually install it yet though, so it found a new home in our guest bedroom!
The week after Christmas, my Dad had some time to get it installed for us! I knew that converting a single sink to a double sink would take some work, but I didn’t quite think it thru all the way and realize how much work it would be. I was just thinking “oh, you run 2 water lines” – you also have to hook up 2 drains. My Dad is amazing tho and worked his magic to make it work (without too much complaining!)
So, we got it all installed! And it sat like that for another month before we were able to complete the next phase of the project – tearing down the lovely green wallpaper & replacing the mirror!
(so, there should be a photo of the new vanity in place with the old mirror here, but I don’t seem to have one! OOPS!)
My sister, Amy, came over and for 2 days we worked on ripping wallpaper down & painting. All in all, I’m convinced that wallpaper is the devil and should never be put up under any circumstances – it is SO challenging to take down!!
We had help of course!
Finally painting!
And here we go! Newly painted wall & new mirror!!
Of course, it needed spruced up a bit –
So, you’ll notice – we’re not quite done. There is one last step to be completed: the backsplash! We were going to just continue the wood paneling around, but we didn’t quite have enough. Plus, we’d really like to do a tile backsplash that will compliment the tile in the shower! So, it’s on the to-do list! Until then, we LOVE our double vanity & the way it’s turned out!!
