You never know what you will find when you leave your husband home alone for the evening.
For example: tonight, I went out to Vestal to meet with a fantastic couple who’s wedding I cannot wait to photograph this summer [thanks for such a great evening John & Amberlee!!] – and so imagine: I’m totally pumped – and I pull into my driveway and come screeching to a halt.
There is my dear husband, standing out in the rain, in his pajama pants, with a flashlight & my broom in hand, staring down into the basement. I can’t help but laugh [& I promise he won’t mind if you laugh too]. I think I was secretly hoping that he was hunting dust bunnies [they are such a crazy problem in my life – I prove it here and here] as we all know that they are slowly taking over my house.
But no. It’s not dust bunnies.
It’s a bat.
He informs me that there is a bat in the basement, and he thought he had killed it, but it was just faking him out. He was standing there with the basement door flung wide open hoping that it would just fly to freedom. Well, I’m afraid that would be too easy. Did I mention that we hate bats? We’ve had them in our house before, and every time we scream like little girls, hide under the bed, and hope that someone will come & save us. Okay, maybe that’s just me. But that’s beside the point – the point is: we never did find the bat – even after Derrick handed me a tennis racquet & flashlight and enlisted me in the search to find the creature. He’s currently hiding somewhere in our basement [the bat that is, not Derrick HAHA]. If anyone has any brilliant ideas to help us get him out, and make our house a little less “bat-attractive” – I’m all ears!
And if anyone suggests we just sic Abby on the bat, you’ve never met our dog. She may attack shiny reflections, but she is deathly afraid of bats – typically she’s under the bed with me when one shows up in our house!
try building a bat house for them outside of your house….. and try to watch at night where they are entering your house so that you can seal those entrances up…. don’t exterminate because if you have alot of them living there, they could become smelly and you won’t be able to get to them…. good luck! ps. I love your new sight 🙂
