On Sunday, Leander turned 3 months old! We’ve officially left the “newborn” stage behind – he now definitely looks like a baby! So, here’s a little update on what he’s been up to the last month!
- Didn’t I just mention last month that I was moving Leander into 3-6 month clothes? Well, we’re now solidly in the 3-6 month clothes as well as most 6 month size as well. This kid is just growing too fast!!
- After having a pretty rough sleep-training experience with Braelynn (who am I kidding – it seems like we’re still sleep-training her!), I have been determined that I would do things differently with Leander. I did a bunch of research ahead of time & learned that up until somewhere between 5-6 months, babies truly aren’t ready to be on a “schedule”, but they do crave routine. And the best routine to get them into is one of eat-play-sleep. So, I decided to go ahead and give it a whirl & Leander has done so well with this routine!! His “sleep” times during the day should be a bit longer, but for the most part, it’s really great to have him in this rhythm and know what to expect & when. As far as nighttime sleeping – he was sleeping a solid 3-4 (even once a 5) hour stretch every night until last week hit and then our nighttime sleeping turned into a roller coaster. But, it’s okay – we’re doing okay!
- The reason everything kind of got tossed on
it’s head last week wasbecause our poor little guy came down with his very first cold & first ear infection. It was so sad – it literally broke my heart to see him sick. I feel like it was inevitable though: Braelynn was sick for almost the entire month of February, and about 2 weeks ago, my immune system gave in to a nasty cold as well. His doctor put him on an antibiotic and after a few days of that – things finally seem to be turning around & getting better. He wakes up every morning just a bit less sniffly & a bit more pleasant & I’m so thankful that he’s feeling better!! (Now, we’ll just probably never leave the house again until summer to avoid any further sickness.) - But back to sleeping! Up until this month, Leander was just napping anywhere he’d fall asleep – either in my arms or in his swing. But starting at the beginning of this month, I started putting him in his crib for naps. Along with his noise machine, he now seems to prefer napping in his crib over napping in his swing – it’s actually pretty amazing how he just seems to know what it means to go up to his room, turn on the noise machine, and sit down in the rocking chair.
- The poor kid developed a pretty dramatic bald spot on the back of his head this month. I know that almost every baby gets it, but it’s still just weird. His hair remains very soft & fuzzy on top, and the debate is still alive whether his hair is blonde, a soft brown, or maybe even a reddish color! Time will tell.
- Leander stayed at Grandma’s house for the very first time this month while Mommy & Daddy went out to dinner for Valentine’s Day! Derrick & I were laughing about how much “easier” it was to leave “Child #2” behind to go out to dinner than “Child #1”!
- We took our first road trip this month & went to visit Nana & Papa for a weekend! Leander did so well in the car – it’s just shy of a
5 hour trip, so we had to make 2 stops on the way up & back to nurse. He really did wonderfully though – only getting upset & crying for about the last 30 minutes of the ride. - While we were up at Nana & Papa’s, we had Derrick’s Dad do a dedication service for Leander – if you are unfamiliar with what a “dedication” is, it’s simply us as parents, standing up in front of the church, and publicly declaring that we intend to raise Leander up to follow the Lord. We plan on doing another dedication back here at home at some point (so that my family can be a part of it too), but we wanted to let Derrick’s parents do a dedication service as well.
- We went to the library for story time for the first time this month!! I’ve been taking Braelynn to story time at the library almost every single week for the last year, so we’ve really really missed our weekly library outings these last few weeks with Leander being a newborn! I decided it was time to finally brave a trip out with just me & the two kiddos & it went really well. Of course, we haven’t been back because right after that is when we all got sick – but
hopefully weekly library trips are in our future again soon! - Whenever I’m holding Leander, his hand seems to find this little piece of hair that is right behind my left ear. He loves to hold on to that piece of hair (I remember one of my cousins doing something similar
with my Aunt). - I think Braelynn falls deeper in love with Leander every single day. She calls him “
Yander -boy” (she still can’t say the “L” sound). But she also calls him the things that I call him: “my little man” “my handsome” “my little dude” – it’s hilarious to hear her calling him “my”! - Leander continues to love bath time – this month taking the excitement level up a notch by figuring out that if he kicks his legs, he splashes the water all around! It’s so much fun!
- His umbilical hernia seems to be healing! It’s definitely smaller than it was at
it’s peak last month & I feel like every few days, it shrinks just a tiny bit more. A few times, I’ve gone to change his diaper & it’s been completely gone – but then it pops back out after a few minutes. It’s just so exciting to see it gradually getting better!
Here are his Three Month photos! It blows my mind how much he’s changed & looks so much older from his One Month photos & Two Month p
If you’d like to follow along with what our little guy is up to on a more weekly basis – I’m taking weekly photos of him (just like I did with Braelynn) too! I post those updates every Monday on my personal Facebook page, as well as my Instagram account!
