The theme of the day seemed to be: “it’s about time.”

After more than 6 years, it was finally time for Ken & Sharon to tie the knot, to hitch their lives to one another, and mesh their 2 families together. With their closest friends and family there to celebrate with them and clap them on the back with cheers of “finally!!” they gathered on Saturday afternoon to make it official .. finally.

Ken & Sharon wanted their day to be relaxed and laid back, with none of the pressures or formality of “normal” weddings. And even though the day was hot and humid, their easy-going nature was like a breath of fresh air. They simply wanted to enjoy their friends, family, and each other.

Ken & Sharon: thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your day! It was so wonderful to meet all of your friends and family and see how much they all love you both! Best wishes for a long happy life together!

When I arrived and began gathering the little details I wanted to photograph while Sharon finished getting ready – she was sure that I had the special handkerchief that was her Grandmother’s. I loved how dainty and vintage it was – and how it complimented their rings.

Because of the laid-back nature of their wedding day, Sharon & Ken had no problems seeing each other before the wedding. In fact, they were getting ready together when I arrived! Ken hadn’t seen Sharon’s dress yet though, and so we arranged a “first look” after she was all dressed to give them a few moments to see each other all decked out and soak in the fact that they were getting married.

I love the idea behind a “first look” – it allowed for a very special and private moment between the bride & groom, but also allowed us to take most of the family portraits before we even headed over to the ceremony. This in turn, also allowed Ken & Sharon to truly enjoy their guests during appetizers and cocktails and over dinner, with no worries about needing to step away from their guests for formal photos.

Ken is so sweet – he audibly gasped when he turned around to see Sharon and then was utterly speechless! He just kept stumbling over his words and simply didn’t know what to say! This of course left Sharon in a fit of giggles and suddenly they both turned into these 2 young kids who had just met and couldn’t help the flirting.

The ceremony and reception were held at the Billsboro Winery, in Geneva, NY, along Seneca Lake. It was the perfect setting for a small, intimate, and relaxed wedding. It was beautiful and the staff there was wonderful to work with!
