Here’s something really strange.
I am a wedding photographer (wait, that’s not strange, I’ll get to the strange part in a minute) – so I primarily shoot weddings & engagements. But every once in a while, I have the opportunity to do something a little different – like senior photos!
Seniors are a ton of fun – they are young, full of life, with gigantic dreams and ambitions ahead of them. They’re inspiring.
But (and here’s the strange part) – recently, I seem to only be photographing senior guys. Which to me, is hilarious! I mean, I used to shoot a pretty even amount of guys vs. girls. In fact, this weekend, I’ll be photographing Casey & Nick’s wedding – Casey was one of the first senior girls I ever photographed (that was before this blog existed)! But recently, it’s all guys. And I love it. It stretches me. Meaning: on wedding days, as the primary photographer, I primarily work with the bride. I’m used to posing women. And depending on the wedding day, my second-shooter takes all the groom’s portraits, or if I’m by myself, guy photos are super-duper quick.
So, all these guy seniors have been stretching my creativity & posing ideas. And it’s awesome.
Meet Isaiah.
He’s Erica’s little brother and has a twin brother named Nick (you’ll see Nick’s senior photos on Thursday). Don’t let his steely looks dissuade you – he’s a teddy bear on the inside. He simply isn’t a smiler! And that’s okay! Some guys simply aren’t. And, with plans to go to college for criminal justice, I think that steely glare just may serve him quite perfectly.
A few weeks ago, we adventured all over his family’s property for his senior photos. It was a lot of fun – not just to walk around where his family currently lives, but to hear the stories of their property. Prior to 2016, they did not live on this hill – it was just an empty lot that they owned & had “one-day” plans to build their forever home on. Isaiah told me stories about how they’d come out to the land to ride 4-wheelers, have picnics, and host parties. How fun is that? I love when a piece of property can hold so many memories & stories!
Isaiah plays both football & baseball at Hempfield Highschool and will be playing baseball in college – so of course, we had to incorporate those two passions into his photos!
I love this – it’s my favorite shot of the whole session! I had told Isaiah that there was one more spot I wanted to stop in, and as I set him up & snapped a few shots, I made the announcement that we were done. He broke into the biggest, most genuine smile. Not to say that he didn’t seem to be enjoying having his pictures taken, or that we weren’t having a good time, he was simply relieved that it was over & I absolutely love his smile!
