- It’s Braelynn’s birthday weekend!! Our sweet baby girl turns SIX years old on Monday (how in the world is that even possible?!) and we’ve been in celebration-mode since Wednesday! We kicked off celebrating our sweet girl by going out to dinner IN a restaurant at Texas Roadhouse! I can’t even tell you the last time we had dinner IN a restaurant – it was so much fun! Braelynn very proudly told the waitress that it was her birthday & they brought her a brownie & ice cream & sang to her – it was so perfect. She soaked up & LOVED every single moment of the attention.
Then, last night, we had a small birthday party for her (with just our immediate family). Derrick’s parents traveled down & they brought Braelynn’s cousin (and best friend) Cameron – which was the icing on the cake. We had a Sonic The Hedgehog themed party (photos to come soon!) & it was perfect. Even having just our immediate family here pretty much maxes out our house, but we had a wonderful time celebrating our girl. Braelynn got PILES of presents – her favorites being her Cry Baby (which she literally screamed when she opened), her little Disney TOTs animals, and her Kinetic Sand kits.
We have a little more celebrating to do – since her actual birthday is on Monday. Plus, in lieu of having all of her friends over at the same time for a “kid” party, we decided to invite her friends over individually for afternoon play-dates – so that’s coming up this week too. In other words: the fun does not stop here! - Speaking of which: I took Braelynn’s annual birthday photos & they’ll be on my blog on Monday – make sure you come back for those! They are my favorite – probably because she’s missing those 2 front teeth!!
Today is the annual “Braelynn’s birthday Abby’s Saturday” photo though – if you’d like a trip down memory lane, you can go back & see the past photos I’ve taken here: #283, #236, #184. - Leander’s been talking more & more, repeating so many words that we say & saying complete phrases – last night though, he said the clearest phrase we’ve ever heard him say! Papa was chasing him around after Braelynn’s party & the two of them were really getting into it. Leander had paused in the living room and was waiting for Derrick’s Dad to come around the corner before he took off running again, but Papa didn’t come, so he blurted out: “Where’d Papa go?” – it was crystal clear & perfect & we all heard him – it was so sweet!
- I know I said I was in “organization mode” last week, but it’s carried over into this week! I re-arranged Braelynn’s bedroom (it’s SO much better now! Why did we ever have it set up the way it was before?), I cleaned out the closet in Derrick & I’s bedroom (it’s the smallest closet in the house) & then switched a bunch of stuff around between the closets in Leander’s room & our room to make things more functional. Of course, the cherry on top was going to Target & buying new plastic bins to organize & store things – it’s been great!
- But now? I’m tired. Party prep, deep cleaning for guests to come, putting up decorations, baking cupcakes, staying up late, waking up early – Mama’s tired. I think it’s time for a nap.

[…] Braelynn celebrated her 8th birthday this week!! Since her birthday fell on a Wednesday this year, we opted to have her birthday party the weekend before (that way, Papa and Nana could be with us). I’ll be posting more about her party this coming week!I still wanted to make her birthday as special as possible though, so I told her I’d make her whatever she wanted for breakfast. We then made plans to pick up lunch from one of her favorite restaurants (“The Cookie Place” aka Eat’n’Park) and go visit my Grandma (Braelynn’s Great Grandma). And then we had church that night. So for breakfast, Braelynn told me she wanted crepes. I wasn’t surprised – she’s requested crepes for her birthday breakfast every year for the past 2-3 years! I started putting the batter together and then realized that I didn’t have any strawberries – no worries, I had frozen blueberries, we’d just use those. Then, I realized I didn’t have any whipped cream – no worries, I had heavy cream, I’d just make some! So, I started pulling all of that out and as I was pouring the heavy cream into the measuring cup, I realized it was spoiled. Yuck. Needless to say, Braelynn’s “birthday crepes” didn’t turn out nearly as planned! So, I promised her we would re-do them on Saturday – with the correct topping ingredients this time! (And spoiler alert – we made them this morning, with fresh cream and fresh strawberries – they were delicious!)Otherwise, we have celebrated our BIG girl all week! We went to Red Lobster on Monday night for endless shrimp, we visited Braelynn’s Great Grandma, Great Meme and Great Grandpa (all of my grandparents), and we’ve been reminded every single day that she’s now “eight years old”.So, today is the annual “Braelynn’s birthday Abby’s Saturday” photo!
