- I know, I’ve started every Abby’s Saturday post for the last 2 weeks the same way, but let’s make it a 3rd:
I’m 100% not ready to say goodbye to summer yet. Even Braelynn said to me this week, “Mommy – summer last year felt so long, but summer this year felt so short! I don’t want summer to be over yet.” SAME.
The temperature has cooled off a little this week – and this weekend those (pesky) weathermen are predicting lows in the 30’s!
I won’t lie: I miss summer – BUT – I must say, I have loved breaking out my sweatpants & hoodies yesterday & this weekend. Plus my kids look darn adorable in cool-weather clothes (I put Leander in jeans & a long sleeve shirt with a hood on it yesterday & omigoodness, I about fell over he was so stinkin’ adorable!) Plus: footie pajamas – umm, hello?! So, I’m not ready for summer, but fall clothes might be changing my mind. - Speaking of fall: I broke out all my fall decorations this week. I KNOW I KNOW – it’s just mid-September – calm down. But I was thinking about it: we like to decorate for Christmas early – we love the glow of Christmas lights & the tree being up. So, every year, I seem to wait until October to decorate for fall, and then 1 month later, I’m taking it all down to decorate for Christmas. So, I figured, I’d decorate a little “early” this year so as to enjoy my fall stuff a little longer. Don’t shoot me.
- Braelynn & I had dentist appointments this week. Somehow, we were one of the last appointments they had before the pandemic shut the world down, which means we got to keep our 6-month check-ups as usual. Derrick, on the other hand, had an appointment post-pandemic-shut-down & his appointment got postponed until October.
Braelynn did fantastic! She loves our dentist & gets so excited to go (which makes me SO happy). They truly make appointments with her super fun & exciting & shower her with stickers & prizes at the end, so she loves it. During her appointment, she got some exciting news: she has a few loose teeth!! We hadn’t even realized it, but while they were cleaning her teeth, they let her know that a few of her front teeth were wiggly. She was elated and has been wiggling away at them, anxious for the day that she loses a tooth!! (Which, is a huge sigh of relief for me, because about a year or two ago, when someone mentioned something about her teeth falling out, she was absolutely horrified & terrified of that happening, so thankfully, she’s come around!)
Me, on the other hand, I’ve been having some issues with my teeth – nothing super major, but it all stems back to a few weeks ago when Braelynn & I rode the Jack Rabbit at Kennywood – we got placed in the last row and as we came down the double-dip, we smashed into the bottom & my teeth pounded together super hard. (Word to the wise: the front rows of the Jack Rabbit are much kinder.) Ever since, my teeth have been off-and-on kind of achey. It’s super random, it comes & goes, and it’s never sparked by anything in particular, but I was concerned about it. Turns out: when my dentist looked at my teeth, they found a piece of my (one-and-only) filling to be missing, and it appears, a piece of my tooth could have also chipped off. YIKES. That would explain a lot. Needless to say, I have to go back in a few weeks so they can fix it. Yay. - Last weekend, we visited Derrick’s parents & I held my annual mini-session day. Seriously: don’t tell anyone I do that, but I send out emails to my very favorite past clients & invite them to take part in mini-sessions. I can’t take everyone’s photos, but I love reconnecting with my favorite people! I started at 9am on Saturday & did not get done until 7pm. (Now do you understand why I can’t open these sessions up to everyone?) They were a smashing success & I had the most wonderful day. Now, I just have around 4,000 photos to edit – no big deal.
- We went out to dinner (for the first time in forever) on Thursday night & on our way home, there was a man standing at one of the intersections, with a sign asking for money. Braelynn noticed him & asked what he was doing. Derrick responded, “He’s asking people to give him money.” Braelynn’s answer to that was, “But that’s not how you get money.” Derrick & I smiled at each other & he asked, “How do you get money, Braelynn?” She quickly answered, “You find it on the floor.” We laughed and laughed – because in Braelynn’s world – getting money is as simple as picking up spare change off the floor. She then added, “You also get money by working for it.” Okay, at least she has a tiny grasp on reality.
- Speaking of money: when we visited my Grandma 2 weeks ago, she gave Braelynn & Leander each $5. She suggested to Braelynn that she could go to the dollar store & by 5 items with that money. So, ever since, Braelynn has been begging to go to the dollar store. We went on Thursday & it was so much fun to watch her carefully go up & down the aisles, thinking thru her 5 items, picking things up, thinking about them, putting things back. She finally ended up with 4 items in the buggy & said she was done. “But you only have 4 things,” I questioned her. “I know Mommy, but I want my 5th thing to be a balloon.” What a smart girl we have.
