- How about this craziness: Leander sat down like this (in this photo), all by himself.
So, a little background: I try to take a mix of Abby’s Saturday photos of the kids + Abby, and Abby by herself (after all, this whole thing started as a focus on my pup!) Last week, I posted a photo of the kids & Abby dressed up in their Easter outfits. So, in my head, this week, it should be a photo more centered on just Abby. We had gone outside a bit earlier in the morning than usual one day this week & the sunlight was just gorgeous – a bit strong, but glorious. I pulled out my camera & decided to play with the light a little bit. I told Abby to sit & backed up to take my shot – and that’s when Leander ran over, plopped his little behind down, and said, “CHEESE!”
Ya know, as photographer’s kids – you just never know what they’re going to do! Sometimes, they want their photos taken & other times (usually when you need to take their photo for something) they straight up refuse. This was one of those rare “want to have his photo taken” moments – it only lasted about 15 seconds – but I took it & here we are with this week’s Abby’s Saturday photo. - Speaking of last weekend – last weekend was Easter! We had a bit of a crazy few days – it wasn’t what we had planned, but after Braelynn had chicken pox a few weeks ago, everything got switched around & thus we ended up spending Easter weekend with the Abbeys and the Eichelbergers! Whirlwind is a pretty good word to describe the weekend, but it was fun (just, a ton of driving). I have more to say & lots of photos, but that will have to wait for my Easter re-cap post later this week or next week.
- I created our March monthly video in my Abbey Archives series this week! Ever since I created February’s video, I have been SO excited for March to end so I could create the next film & I am absolutely obsessed with it! I just love the little peek into our family’s life & I love to watch my sweet kiddos being silly with each other & enjoying life. I know these videos will only get more & more precious as the months (& years) go by – but no rush, I’m happy to take it one day at a time (my kids are growing too fast as it is!)
- This week has been a big week for Braelynn! I have been teaching her to read forever. Honestly. We’ve been working on reading for over a year at this point. It’s easily one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done & in hindsight – she just really wasn’t ready to start reading when I first started to teach her (lesson learned: if a kid isn’t ready for something, trying to force them into it just leaves everyone frustrated – it’s so much easier to wait until they’re ready!) Over the last few weeks though, reading has really seemed to click for her & she’s suddenly started to “get it”. And that all culminated this week in her reading “Green Eggs & Ham” and “Go Dog, Go” to me at bedtime. She didn’t know all of the words, but she could read or figure out about 75% of them. I was SO proud of her – but most importantly: she was SO proud of herself. She suddenly realized that reading isn’t just a boring act of silly sentences or word lists in her school books – but it’s actually the gateway to full-blown stories & books.
Just a few months ago – she told me that she “hated” reading & it was her least favorite thing to do.
This week? She told me she “loves” reading & she can’t wait to read more.
Cue all the emotions.
Because – I love to read. And I desperately want to pass that love of reading on to my children (which is probably why I began trying to teach Braelynn to read a bit too early). So, this week was a huge win for us! - Today is my first wedding of 2021!! I am SO excited – I absolutely cannot wait! (But, I’m also slightly terrified & a ball of nerves – I have a certain amount of anxiety before every wedding I photograph, but being my first wedding of the year just makes it that much more nerve-wracking.) But, mostly I’m super pumped. It is going to be a gorgeous, wonderful, fantastic day & I cannot wait to celebrate with Lauren & Tim! Their wedding day highlights will be on my blog later this week – so stick around!
Along with it being my first wedding of the year – it’s Derrick’s too! He is coming along as videographer for the day & I’m excited to have him with me!
