Highlight of the Week
She’s here! She’s here! She’s here!
On Thursday night, my sister Ellen & brother-in-law Jonathan welcomed their first baby girl into the world! They haven’t “officially” announced her name & birth on social media yet, so I’ll let them do that (although they’ve posted some “hints”!)
We were all there at the hospital when she was born (my parents, siblings, Jonathan’s Mom). Derrick stayed home with Braelynn and was planning on bringing her up as soon as we got word that she was born, but it was later in the evening & Braelynn had already fallen asleep. That’s okay though because by the time we all got into the room to see them, it was very late & we didn’t stay long. We all headed up to the hospital yesterday to meet her! Braelynn was so excited to meet her new baby cousin, but when I carried her over to see, she got super shy all of a sudden. She did eventually warm up enough to give the baby the present she had brought. She didn’t want to hold her new cousin, but sat next to Ellen on the hospital bed for a long time and she’d walk over to whoever was holding the baby & just peek at her. I can’t wait to see the adventures the two of them get into!
Everyone is happy & healthy and doing really really well. The new family of 3 comes home from the hospital today!
Yes, This Happened
- Yesterday was my Mom’s birthday & we hosted her birthday dinner here at our house. Ruby & I made macarons (our second attempt), they turned out delicious! We’re starting to get the hang of it I think – just call us the macaron queens! (just kidding, we have no idea what we’re doing – we can just follow YouTube videos really well)
- On Thursday morning, Braelynn went over to Meme & Grandpa’s to hunt Easter baskets with her other cousins (technically, second-cousins). I’m not sure if she truly understood the concept that the Easter baskets were “hidden”, she just kind of followed everyone else around! It was fun though & she was just excited to get a basket full of candy!
- I published the 11th chapter of Derrick & I’s love story this week.
- On Sunday afternoon, we dyed Easter Eggs at my parent’s house! Braelynn was totally into that! Instead of traditional dye (you know, where you drop the little tablet into a cup of water & dunk the egg in), my Mom got these dye “sticks” – you snapped them like a glow stick & then used them like a paintbrush to draw on the eggs. They were super cool! BUT also super messy. They were not washable. Our hands were stained blue/red/purple for a few days.
Feeling Blessed
Today is KAP wedding #3 of the 2018 season!
Last night, Derrick & I were talking about the wedding today and he said, “You know, I was watching you last week at the wedding.” Last Saturday, we attended the wedding (as guests!) of a young lady I used to babysit back-in-the-day. I love photographing weddings, but it’s wonderful to just attend one every now & then! Anyways, Derrick said that he was watching me on Saturday & he was like, “You really love weddings, don’t you? And as much as you loved being a guest & not the photographer, you were happiest when you helping the bride.” (backstory, the bride’s dress didn’t get bustled before the reception, so she was dragging her train thru dinner & special dances, so I found her as the DJ was opening up the dance floor & asked if I could help bustle her up) And, it just gave me all the warm fuzzies – I do love weddings, but mostly I love my brides & grooms & working to help in any way that I can to make their day better.
As much as I loved being a guest, I’m super excited to have my camera back in my hands today as I’m off to photograph another fabulous day!
