I won’t lie, this is probably my favorite blog post of the entire year.
It makes the crazy challenge of taking weekly photos of a Black Lab & toddler totally worth it!
And challenge it is! As this posts, I have taken a whopping 233 Abby’s Saturday photos.
TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-THREE.
That’s kind of insane to me. It’s a project I started way back in August 2013 and honestly? I did it as a way to “fill” another day on my blog calendar. At the time, I was simply trying to blog consistently for my baby business & knowing that every Saturday I could post a photo of Abby (yep, crazy dog owner status) helped with that consistency. But, it also acted as a way to stretch my creativity, a reason to pick up my camera every week (especially since I wasn’t shooting within my business on a weekly basis yet), and to practice.
And here we are, 5 1/2 years & 233 photos later (and yes, if you do the math, I did take some time off when we moved & Braelynn was born).
It was fun to take weekly photos of Abby, but then it became even more fun to add in Braelynn to some of her photos! I love the little “diary” of photos I have of the two of them. They truly have a special relationship (even though recently, Braelynn thinks it’s a lot of fun to tease/torture Abby (pulling her tail & instigating her to chase her around the house), and then load her up with about 23 dog treats). I’m not going to lie though: the thought of adding another little person into these photos is a bit daunting! You’ll see – these photos aren’t always the easiest to take & usually, they’re downright challenging! Not only is it tough sometimes (okay, most of the time) to think up new ideas, but to actually execute them is super tricky sometimes! But, in the end, the outcome is totally worth all the work.
So, anyways! You can imagine that with taking weekly photos of a Black Lab & toddler, there are bound to be some winners and some losers. And this post consists of the most hilarious “loser” photos!
Disclaimer: No Black Labs or toddlers were hurt or injured in any way due to the circumstances of these photos – promise.
(oh wait, that’s not exactly true: Braelynn did get stung by a bee this summer when we were trying to take an Abby’s Saturday photo – oops)
You simply MUST go back & see the Blooper Reels I’ve posted the last 2 years! Not only are they hilarious, but Braelynn is SO tiny! I’m suddenly so thankful for these weekly photos of our lovable (and so patient & tolerating) pup & our quickly growing baby girl!

(The following photos are shown in the order that I took them throughout the year, so kicking things off with January & ending with the very last photo I took of Abby, Braelynn, and Leander!)
Yum, fresh January snow.
“Maybe if I hide here, she won’t see me & make me do anything silly for another photo.”
I’d like to think that Abby is secretly laughing at Braelynn’s hair.
“Ugh I’ve been kissed by a dog! I have dog germs! Get hot water! Get some disinfectant! Get some iodine!”
Put’er there.
Is that a snake?! (it’s not, I promise)
Braelynn, the dog conquerer.
Oh, right – did you know that when I took the “200th” Abby’s Saturday photo, that I actually only had the numbers “2” and “0”? I was too cheap to pay another $6 for the second zero, so I just photoshopped it over – HAHA.
Strangulation.
Brealynn, tell us how you really feel about adding a baby to the family.
More dog kisses.
Abby’s attempt at a smile – I promise she wasn’t growling (Abby hardly ever growls!)
Attempt #2!
Derrick – my wonderful assistant (who secretly thinks I’m absolutely crazy).
This is what you call: the dog days of summer.
This one makes me laugh – every single time. I just can’t get over Abby’s face!!
Here: have some snow!
Ladies & gentleman: the “smile” of a photographer’s child.
So, I took a “traditional” Christmas photo of just Abby & Braelynn, but when Leander was born on December 3rd, I realized we had to add him in! So, these are outtakes of a photo that I never posted.
“Wait, now you’re going to try to add in another person to these photos?!”
Okay, now that you’re hooked, you must go back & see the bloopers/outtakes from the last 2 years!
