Abby’s Saturday started as a fun excuse to take pictures of my dog. When we first adopted Abby, she was a frisky 6-month old puppy with boundless energy. Seriously – think of those commercials with dogs that are insanely crazy – that was Abby. We would have friends come over for dinner or a movie and she literally would not calm down the entire time they were at our house. She’d jump on them, bark, jump over our couch – it was a bit intense. She was a handful, but we didn’t mind because we loved her.
Thankfully, eventually, she calmed down. She still gets super excited when people come over, but that energy tends to only last about 3-5 minutes now (instead of hours). So, about the time that she was settling down, I started the “Abby’s Saturday” series on my blog. Like I said, at first, it was just an excuse to take pictures her & stretch my creativity – a reason to pick up my camera every single week. Believe it or not, I used to just post a photo & that was it! It slowly morphed into more – I began writing little snippets about our week & thus the format you see today was born.
This year I posted 52 Abby’s Saturdays. Yep! Every single Saturday a new photo dropped. In total, since that first post in August of 2013, I’ve published 180 Abby’s Saturday photos. Some I’m super proud of, others were taken hastily & are just “okay”. No matter what though, I truly have a ton of fun & am looking forward to continuing on in 2018!
Taking weekly photos automatically comes with a certain amount of challenge: coming up with new ideas, new props, & new scenarios is quite ambitious & downright stretching! I’ve literally shot in almost every single corner of my house! And with taking all of those photos, there are bound to be a certain amount of “bloopers”! And blooper images I have! Last year was the first time I posted some behind-the-scenes bloopers and it was such a hit, I’m at it again!
Here are a few of my favorite hilarious & behind-the-scenes moments of shooting my dog (and toddler) weekly!
“Here’s how this works: if we wear the washcloths on our head, Mom can’t hear us talking. I’ll give you half of my dinner tonight if you take the blame for the pee on the floor, deal?”
“I’m not sure what she’s doing, but I’m looking super cute.”
Just in case you ever thought taking these photos was easy! A fair amount of tears were shed from an uncooperative toddler at times!
“Oops – hopefully she didn’t see that.”
“You want me to do what?”
“She’s got the camera out again! RUN!”
This is one of my favorite photos EVER – Braelynn’s dirty face, her happy smile & closed eyes, and Abby’s eyes bugging out of her head – it’s so good!
Told ya! Never easy.
“Wait, if we’re good & take this photo, you’ll give us a treat?”
SQUIRREL!
“It’s okay Abby, Mom will refill our snacks momentarily.”
“Are we seriously doing this again?”
“I am humiliated.”
“You can bribe me with kisses, but I’m still humiliated.”
“We aren’t supposed to drink the water!”
CHEESE.
“What is she doing?”
“This kid is so weird with her washcloth obsession.”
“Could someone give me a hand?”
“I’ve gotta finish painting your nails, Abby!”
“Mom says I’m never allowed to touch her Starbucks and now she wants me to get dangerously close?”
Mistletoe kisses.
When Braelynn is super hyper because it’s Christmas and we’ve been baking (eating) Christmas cookies all day – and I attempt to take a nice formal photo:
Never easy! But always totally worth it (especially if you saw the last Abby’s Saturday that I posted!)
If you got a little laugh out of these – feel free to go back to last year’s blooper reel! It’s so good (and Brealynn is so small!) I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings!
