Meet Zach – a sweet-as-pie, humble, hard-working senior. I feel like I could go on and on about this kid because I’ve known him for a long long time, but I can show you who he is with just one story:
The day we were taking his senior photos, he casually mentioned that he had been nominated for Homecoming King. He laughed because he said he didn’t even realize what was happening until he heard his name announced over the loudspeaker. He was working in the school office, not really paying attention to the announcements that were playing, until he heard his name. He perked up, looked around the office, and said “Why did they just say my name?” He’s such a sweetheart, he explained that everyone who had been nominated were these super popular kids and then, there was him. He smiled and shrugged it off and said he would never actually win the title, but he was touched that someone would nominate him.
We wanted to take some of his senior photos at the school since it plays such a large role in his life. He plays football and helped take his team to win the state championship just last year. The morning we got together for his senior photos, we just assumed that we’d be able to get into the school to grab his jersey out of the locker room. Silly us, the school was locked up tight. We ended up waiting with the girls’ soccer team, who were sitting on the front steps waiting for their coach to arrive & let them in to get to their locker room as well. In the 20 minutes that we sat with those girls, it was so evident – they all admired Zach. As much as he played it down, they all looked up to him. They didn’t cling to him like a bunch of infatuated girls, or surround him like a fan club, but there was a mutual respect between them that was so tangible. He knew each of their names and talked to them with such kindness & big-brotherly-ness. They all knew Zach & looked up to him as a senior & a great guy.
It came as no huge surprise then when his Mom texted me a few weeks later, exclaiming that Zach had been crowned Homecoming King.
I feel like I could go on, but I’ll just say: I am so blessed to know this sweet family (I took his brother Adam’s senior portraits a few years ago). I cannot wait to see what Zach does with himself in the next few years. He plans to go to Broome County Community College for law enforcement & he will be amazing at whatever he pursues! Best of luck, Zach!
