I have never lived a normal “weekend” life.
From before I was born, my family would travel 2 hours south to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland every weekend from spring through fall. Most people simply don’t understand – and that’s okay! I quickly came to realize that the concept of having a “lake house” was utterly foreign to 100% of my friends and explaining where & when & how became a fun challenge. Traveling down to the lake on Friday nights is my family’s “normal”. Sitting out on a boat on Saturday afternoons is “normal”. Going to a different church half of the year is “normal”.
That definitely makes us sound super rich & privileged.
Rich – no.
Privileged – yes.
There is a rich history to the lake house. Braelynn begins the 4th generation of family being blessed by my Great-Grandfather’s foresight to buy this piece of land on Deep Creek Lake. So, we have a rich heritage there.
That being said, this year, if we’re not traveling to see Derrick’s parents, if I’m not out shooting a wedding – we’ve made every effort to be at the lake. Since moving last winter, we’ve been able to enjoy the lake so much more than we ever have since Derrick & I got married. We used to just be able to visit on holiday weekends – Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day – but this year, we have spent so many more “normal” weekends at the lake [what I know as “normal”]! Filled to the brim with boating, swimming, kayaking, and long walks.
This past weekend found us at the lake. Since the season is winding down, this weekend called for one last boat ride, then taking the boat out, and pulling the dock out for the winter.
But – it’s so much more fun to see pictures! So, here’s what our weekend looked like! Mostly in pictures of Braelynn!
