Last weekend we took a lovely drive across the state of Pennsylvania to visit Derrick’s best friend from college & his family! Having recently made a huge transition [surprisingly similar to our own! we both moved across the state to be closer to the wife’s family, both our men struggled to find a job, we both ended up living with our parents for about a year, and then finally transitioned to fabulous houses!] it was great to be able to reconnect! It was so weird though to sit down & compare stories and realize just how similar they were! At almost the exact same time too!
Caleb was Derrick’s best friend & roommate in college. Fun fact: Caleb & Steph got married exactly one week before Derrick & I met! Derrick was in 2 weddings 2 weekends in a row – the first was Caleb & Steph’s and the second was his brother Paul & Naomi’s wedding, where we met! I’m so glad that whatever bridesmaid he was paired with at Caleb & Steph’s wedding didn’t catch his eye! [you haven’t heard our story? it’s such a good one, maybe we’ll write it out one day! until then, you’ll just have to ask us!]
I stayed with them when I visited Derrick at college his last semester & then Caleb was in our wedding. We’ve visited a few times since college graduation, but this was the first time that we’ve both had a kid [or two!] It was so fun to see our little munchkins play together & be friends! And, now that we live closer together than ever before [only a little over 2 hours!] hopefully we’ll be able to see each other more often. We’re already devising a plan on how to get them to our house!
Here’s the 4 of us! Caleb & Steph’s oldest son, Parker, was our wonderful photographer. I was going to crop the picture to be straight, center it, and crop out his little thumb smudge in the top right corner, but I decided to leave it because things don’t always have to be perfect. And pardon our zombie-like appearance – we stayed up super late the night we got there and then were woke up early by our kiddos the next morning [seriously, where is the snooze button on those kids?] so – real life folks – real life!
