The fact that time flies by goes without saying, but why does it go so much faster when on vacation?! Seriously, how does that happen? Why can’t vacation time be equal to work-week time (don’t get me wrong, my work-weeks fly by pretty fast) but com’on! I swear, vacation time goes twice as fast as normal time – it is literally the most unfair part of life.
Needless to say, the past week-plus-a-day of vacation has been wonderful. After a minor setback and delay of the start of our vacation (thanks to Braelynn picking up Hand/Foot/Mouth Virus) we finally got down to some vacationing last Sunday afternoon. The following 8 days were filled with long lazy days spent on the boat, on the lakeshore, around the fire, and around the table – eating of course! We did some other fun things too – like going to Kings Dominion (where Derrick rode his 150th roller coaster), visiting the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center, going out to eat (because .. food), took lots of walks, watched a few movies, played lots of card games, and simply enjoyed ourselves!
I kid you not: just about every single day looked like this! We could not have asked for a better week of weather!!
I also got to try my hand at a little night photography! It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for several years, but every weekend we seem to be at the lake, the elements simply do not all align: if I have my tripod & the proper camera equipment, it is cloudy/raining. If it is clear out, I’m probably missing my tripod or the lens I need. This past week though, I had literally every single piece of camera equipment I own with me because I shot Orion & Brad’s wedding this past Saturday, so it worked out! I actually got TWO glorious clear nights and I got some AMAZING star photos – so many, that they’re getting their own post – stay tuned! (here’s a little sneak peek though!)
Like I mentioned, we drove to Kings Dominion in Virginia on Tuesday. We had to get up bright & early to get there by the time the park opened (it takes a little under 4 hours to get there). We met Derrick’s old college friend Becky there & had a blast! What a great day!
Of course: I took my camera & did some shooting for XScreamThrills – roller coaster photography is literally SO much fun! Again – too many photos for this post – so, more to come!
Braelynn loved the Discovery Center! So many fun things to look at and touch!
Did I mention how beautiful every . single . day was?
We also made a trip out to Penn Alps Restaurant (one of my Dad’s favorite places) for some delicious food! The Casselman Bridge is right there & is always a fun historic walk!
