Well, we’re back to our “usual” Easter weekend programming.
In other words: half of our house was sick for the weekend and missed out on “normal” Easter family festivities.
At this point – I think I will just assume (forever and always) that we will be fighting sickness for Easter. It doesn’t matter that Easter falls on a different weekend every year – it doesn’t matter how healthy or sick we’ve been – it doesn’t matter if we insulate ourselves into a bubble in the weeks leading up to Easter – we will just be sick. End of story.
(As a refresher: in 2024 we were sick, in 2022 we were sick, in 2021 we were sick, in 2020 we were in the middle of “two weeks to slow the spread” nonsense for Easter, and in 2019 we were sick. So far, 2023 and 2018 were our only “healthy and normal” Easter holidays.)
Thankfully, we did have healthy days leading up to Easter, so we were able to still participate in many of the “preliminary” Easter celebrations – just not the fun that actually happens on Easter Sunday. (Which yes, includes no family pictures in the fancy, cohesive outfits that Mama worked so hard to find and buy. I’m tempted to dress everyone back up in their Easter clothes later this week for a family photo since that’s literally all I wanted on Easter Sunday!)
If you’d like to take a trip down memory lane, you can go back & see past Easter posts I’ve written here:
Easter 2024
Easter 2023
Easter 2022
Easter 2021
Easter 2020
Easter 2018
Easter 2017
Easter 2016 (if you only go back and look at one post, go back and look at this one just for Derrick’s hair!)
Our Easter celebrations kicked off with a big Easter party at church!

We have the world’s sweetest neighbors who sent Easter gifts over to the kids on Friday afternoon!

We took Easter weekend and traveled across the state to visit some extended Abbey family members! We left early Saturday morning and spent the entire day and half of Sunday with Derrick’s Aunt and Uncle and lots of cousins! The kids had a blast taking rides on the quad, playing in and around the stream, and playing games with everyone (until poor Leander came down with a fever and spent the rest of the weekend in bed).

So, all I got on Easter Sunday was a photo of Derrick and I, since poor Leander was so sick.

We celebrated our own family Easter on Friday night – before we traveled for the weekend, so thankfully, everyone was alive and feeling good for that!

And as the cherry on top, we celebrated with my side of the family with an egg hunt and dessert Sunday night. For the umpteenth year in a row, Leander and Derrick missed out (someday we will all get to celebrate together for Easter!)

As usual, I took photos of our kids in their Easter outfits a few days ahead of time. I typically do this every year because then, there is no pressure on Easter Sunday to take these “formal” photos. AND since we tend to be sick (more often than not) on Easter Sunday – taking photos ahead of time assures me that get these photos of my sweet kids that are getting so big! (And thank goodness I did!)

Here’s to hoping that next year is better and healthy (but, let’s be honest: the odds aren’t exactly in our favor with that hope!)
