Easter weekend was this past weekend.
And per our usual “agreement” (with who? I don’t know, it just sounds funny), our plans got shifted and changed around.
What was supposed to happen?
Well, we were supposed to go to Kennywood on Saturday for a wonderful, family-fun, passholder preview day.
Sunday, we were supposed to dress up in our Easter outfits and go to church, followed by lunch with some of my sisters, followed by an afternoon of Easter fun at our house – with the cherry on top being dessert & a big egg hunt at my parent’s house.
The only thing on that list that “sort of” happened was Kennywood on Saturday. But it still didn’t fully happen.
Let’s rewind: Leander woke up with a nasty cold on Wednesday morning. He was miserable and felt icky all day, but was back to his normal self by Thursday (his normal self + boogers). I was hopeful that by the weekend, he’d be feeling much better and we could proceed with our plans-as-planned.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. His boogery-nose transformed into a croup-like-cough, which kept the two of us home from Kennywood on Saturday. Derrick & Braelynn still went – they had a blast! It was chilly and drizzly, but there weren’t many people there and they had so much fun together! Meanwhile, Leander & I were sitting on the couch, watching endless episodes of Spiderman & His Amazing Friends.
That cough (plus the threat that Braelynn might be coming down with the same cold) kept us home from church on Sunday. It cancelled our lunch plans and postponed our dessert + egg hunt plans Sunday night.
So yeah, needless to say, Easter did not quite go as planned.
Life rarely seems to go as planned though, so by this point, I feel like I should just expect it.
(We were all sick for Easter 2019 and we were all still in “two-weeks-to-flatten-the-curve” for Easter 2020.)
We did our best to make the best of the cards we’d been dealt though! A last minute Target pick-up order on Saturday night plus a little magic created by Mom & Dad on Sunday meant our day was quiet, but still wonderful.
Braelynn was up at (gulp) 5:00am on Sunday morning, but she refrained from bouncing on our bed until 6:00am. We (somehow) convinced her to wait until 7:00am to wake up her brother so they could go find their Easter baskets hidden downstairs!
We watched church on TV, in our pajamas, snuggled up on the couch. We hid eggs in our backyard after lunch, took a nap & played some Mario in the afternoon, and then ate ham for dinner.
It was a chill day.
But it had the tiniest tinge of excitement: it was the last “major” event standing between us and our big vacation! All I can say is: the kids BETTER return to health this week – no pressure or anything, but: Florida or BUST!
If this isn’t the face of pure elation, I’m not sure what is!
Egg hunting! It was only about 38º outside, but they kids didn’t care!
Knowing that the weather for Easter weekend was going to be cold and rainy, I dressed the kids up in their Easter outfits earlier in the week to take some photos of them!
I’m not sure if you can tell, but I can tell that poor Leander wasn’t feeling good in these photos! My poor little dude!
