Is it just me, or does Easter feel like it was forever ago already? (Never mind the fact that it was only 2 weeks ago.)
Easter this year was so different from last year – in all the very best ways. Last year, we were just entering this brand new state of “quarantine”, everyone was completely terrified of this “COVID-19” virus, and no one really knew what the future held. So, we did what we thought (at the time) was best & we stayed home. We FaceTimed our families & hunted eggs in our backyard & had Easter dinner as a family of 4.
Well – fast forward a full year & we arrive at Easter 2021. Believe it or not, COVID-19 is still a thing, people out there are still terrified of it, and the future is still very much uncertain. Not to downplay the virus or the destructive path it’s left behind over the last year at all, but we simply know more this year & so we felt comfortable celebrating Easter with our families (instead of quarantined all to ourselves). And it was delightful.
I try to always take photos of the kids in their “Easter outfits” & I took these photos on the Tuesday before Easter. Why so early? Well, because the Tuesday before Easter was glorious & warm & sunny – and then Wednesday arrived. People, it snowed on Wednesday – less than 24 hours after I took these photos! (So, that’s why I made sure to get these in a little early!)
By the way: taking photos of our sweet (sassy) children is never as easy as it looks – but it is always 100% worth it.
Because we knew that our actual Easter weekend would be packed to the gills, we decided to celebrate our Easter a little early. So, as a reward for letting Mama take some pretty photos, we hid the kid’s Easter baskets & let them hunt for them immediately afterward!
Fast forward to Easter weekend – we traveled up to spend most of the weekend with Derrick’s family. This included a trip down to Mill City so we could participate in Derrick’s Uncle Jim’s church’s Easter egg hunt. We also had Easter dinner with the extended Abbey family, plus we got to see Derrick’s Grandparents (who we haven’t seen in years – this was the first time they’ve ever met Leander!)
These are Derrick’s Grandparents who are currently staying with his Aunt Dot & Uncle Jim – along with just a few of their great-grandchildren (there are many more not pictured!)
Then, we buzzed home Sunday in order to have Easter dinner (and an egg hunt) with my family! By this point – our kiddos got it (I mean, Braelynn knew what an Easter egg hunt was, but Leander was pretty pointless, but by this point, he knew exactly what to do!)
Needless to say: we now have enough chocolate to open a candy store. Seriously – we are never going to eat all of it!
