Weekend Wrap-Up | Version 03.31.24 | Easter

Well, we’re back to our “usual” Easter weekend programming.
In other words: half of our house was sick for the weekend and missed out on “normal” Easter family festivities.

At this point – I think I will just assume (forever and always) that we will be fighting sickness for Easter. It doesn’t matter that Easter falls on a different weekend every year – it doesn’t matter how healthy or sick we’ve been – it doesn’t matter if we insulate ourselves into a bubble in the weeks leading up to Easter – we will just be sick. End of story.

(As a refresher: in 2022 we were sick, in 2021 we were sick, in 2020 we were in the middle of “two weeks to slow the spread” nonsense for Easter, and in 2019 we were sick. So far, 2023 and 2018 were our only “healthy and normal” Easter holidays.)

Needless to say: we had a pretty low-key Easter weekend.
The kids still managed to hunt for their Easter baskets Sunday morning (Braelynn requested that we hide her basket “extremely hard” this year – and Derrick wanted to hide it under our couch where we store our blankets – her basket didn’t fit there, so we ended up hiding it somewhere else, but can you believe that the FIRST spot she looked when she came downstairs was under the couch?!)
Braelynn and I went to church (we left the boys home because they were pretty sick).
We had a very quiet Easter lunch (Leander slept through the entire meal and Derrick barely ate).
Somehow, Derrick was able to muster up enough energy to hide eggs out in our backyard for Braelynn and Leander (a tradition we started in 2020 when we were under “lockdown” and have simply continued on) and once Leander woke up from his nap, he felt good enough to hunt for eggs!
Then Braelynn and I dashed off to my parent’s house (to get away from the sickies) for an Easter egg hunt with the cousins and dessert.
Thankfully (knock on wood), Braelynn and I still remain healthy, while the boys are still getting over whatever nonsense they were sick with. (Seems to be some sort of 24-48 hour flu?)

As usual, I took photos of my kids in their Easter outfits a few days ahead of time. I typically do this every year because then, there is no pressure on Easter Sunday to take these “formal” photos. AND since we tend to be sick (more often than not) on Easter Sunday – taking photos ahead of time assures me that get these photos of my sweet kids that are getting so big!

The only thing that was missing and felt so completely strange was our Abby-dog. She was always in these photos I took of the kids, and she was missed so very much!
