Come with us as we surprise our kids with a trip to Legoland New York for opening day 2026 – and somehow keep it a secret the entire drive there.
This ended up being one of those days we’ll all remember for a long time.
Ever since we visited Legoland New York last summer, our kids have been BEGGING to go back. If they hadn’t been bitten by the “LEGO bug” before our visit (and they definitely had), they became even more obsessed with LEGOs than ever over the winter. Both of the kids had birthdays and we had Christmas and somehow LEGOs have simply become part of our household decor.
(In fact, as I type this, my kids are going crazy over the fact that the brand new Ninjago season has just been released TODAY!)
So you can imagine Derrick and I’s excitement when we randomly (and surprisingly) got an email inviting us to attend Legoland New York’s opening day! We decided to keep it a complete secret from our kids. We told them that Dad had to go on an “overnight work trip” (which is nothing new) and we were all going to go together (again, something we’ve done in the past).
Somehow, we were able to keep the secret (despite our GPS announcing in the car that “Legoland New York may not be open when you arrive”) and the kids’ reactions were the best EVER.
Despite the cold and cloudy day, the crowds were light and we had a WONDERFUL day at Legoland New York!
And because – what’s a blog post without photos – here are just a few (I didn’t bring my big camera with me, so these are all iPhone snaps!)
