The wonderful wide world of weddings is a dynamic creature. It is ever growing, changing, and evolving.
As you jump into wedding planning, you will very quickly come to realize that the celebrations your friends and family planned 10 years ago, 5 years ago, even 2 years ago – are drastically different than the celebration you are trying to plan today.
The wedding industry changes very quickly and a lot of that is because we are all heavily influenced by social media. (Be honest, I bet you check social media more than once a day – right?)
In other words: as you begin to plan your 2024, 2025, or 2026 wedding (and beyond) the advice and recommendations that your friends and family give you, might not actually be realistic or relevant to you.
And the sooner you can realize and accept that, the better!
(Trust me, your friend who got married 8 years ago has the very best intentions in sharing how she planned her wedding, but I can guarantee that a lot of things have drastically changed since then. We’ve gone through a pandemic and been hit with sky-high inflation – along with all the “usual” wedding changes and trends evolving.)
One of the newest “kids on the wedding block” is the Wedding Day Content Creator. I guarantee you, that your Grandma, likely your Mom, and maybe even a lot of your friends might have never even heard of this new wedding vendor. They’re growing in popularity though – the Wedding Day Content Creation field is on fire right now and wedding “experts” predict that by the end of 2025, 75% of weddings will have Wedding Day Content Creators at them!
Whether you are trying to decide whether a Wedding Day Content Creator is right for you – or if you’re leaning toward wanting to hire one for your big day – you’ll likely come across some opposition from friends and family.
So, let’s talk about some PROS and CONS of hiring a Wedding Day Content Creator:
PROS:
Footage Delivered (almost) Immediately
The Wedding Day Content Creator’s signature move is to deliver all of the raw photos and videos that they took within 24 hours.
This means you can begin reliving all the memories of your wedding day as you head off on your honeymoon. You’ll be armed with footage to share, as people realize you’re newlyweds, and you can pull out your phone and show off a few photos or video clips to prove how gorgeous and wonderful your wedding day was.
This also means you can begin sharing the highlights of your wedding day with friends and family who were not able to attend (as well as the rest of the world) very very quickly – the very next day!
Professional
You might be tempted to simply hand your phone off to a friend or family member on your wedding day, asking them to take some photos and videos for you.
And while there are many differences between a friend or family member with your phone and a specific Wedding Day Content Creator on your wedding day – the main one is this:
A Wedding Day Content Creator is experienced in wedding day etiquette, they know how a wedding day flows, and the key moments to look out for. They won’t be distracted as it is their job to capture the wedding day (whereas a friend or family member should be enjoying the celebration – not “working”).
Wedding Day Content Creators know how to work their phones to produce the best quality photos and videos, they use professional gimbals for stabilization, and have worked out a plan with the bride and groom to capture certain, specific moments.
Creative Vision
Wedding Day Content Creators are not just “anyone” with a phone in hand, capturing the wedding day haphazardly. They arrive armed with ideas, inspiration, and a creative plan for the day. They meet with the bride and groom in the weeks leading up to the wedding day so that they can strategize and put together a specific list of short-form content to be filmed.
And after they come home from the wedding – they not only deliver the raw footage that was captured, but they create a few pieces of “ready-made” content for you to simply press “share” on for social media.
CONS:
Price Tag
We all know that weddings are expensive and adding another vendor to your wedding day does come with a price tag. Thanks to inflation, wedding days in 2024 and 2025 are more expensive than ever (trust me: the “estimates” you see on The Knot or Wedding Wire are at least 2 years behind!)
Just think about going to the grocery store: if your grocery bill has increased over the last 2 years (and I can guarantee that it has) – wedding vendors have also increased their pricing. It’s simple (even though painful) economics.
Weddings are more expensive than ever, so: adding in a Wedding Day Content Creator to your budget may simply not work. And that’s okay!
However, if having someone there to document your day in the style of a Wedding Day Content Creator is important to you, I’d encourage you to get creative with other portions of your wedding day. There are plenty of ways to trim a wedding budget (getting married on an “off-day”, forgoing favors, trimming the guest list, etc.) you just might have to get a little creative to do so.
Misunderstanding
Your friends and family will most likely have never heard of a Wedding Day Content Creator (unless they are current with what’s going on in the wedding world) and you might get some push-back in expressing a desire to hire one. Even your fiance might balk at the idea of adding another wedding vendor to your team.
Having a thorough understanding of what a Wedding Day Content Creator does and why you want to have one is the best defense against someone pushing-back on your desire to hire one. Communication is key. Sitting down and calmly explaining what a Wedding Day Content Creator is will not only bring your friends and family onto your “team”, but will further help flush out all of the myths and misunderstanding surrounding Wedding Day Content Creators!
Finding The Right Fit
Wedding Day Content Creators are brand new to the wedding industry – in other words: there aren’t a lot of them out there!
Sure, more and more are popping up every day, but finding a Wedding Day Content Creator who you love, who’s style meshes with yours, who has the experience you’re looking for, and is local to you can be a challenge!
I’d suggest asking in local Facebook groups for wedding planning couples to see who is out there and to begin evaluating your options. Google is great for searching, but it can lag behind when new websites are created and take some time to crawl and present those websites.
If you simply cannot find anyone, you might have to pay a little extra to have a Wedding Day Content Creator that you love travel to you. Just be aware that travel fees can add an additional $300-$1000 to your cost, depending on how far they have to travel, if they can drive or have to book airplane tickets, and if they have to book overnight accommodations.
