October is definitely one of my favorite months of the year. I love the way the weather changes – summer slowly fades into fall – the leaves begin to change, all the delicious pumpkin-flavored things return to us, and it’s my birthday month!
(Never mind that October is also traditionally my busiest month of the year as a photographer!)
This month was full & full of FUN.
We said goodbye to the Lakehouse this month – my family’s house on Deep Creek Lake in Maryland is not quite up to snuff when it comes to winter, so every October, the house gets winterized & closed up against the cold. The house is literally “put to rest”, as we all anxiously await the snow to melt & spring to arrive so we can open the house back up & begin regular visits once again. The kids & I spent some extra time at the Lake at the beginning of October, just soaking it all up. We had beautiful weather!
(9:30) Of course: October also means Halloween & trick or treating! Our little Jessie the Cowgirl & Buzz Lightyear had SO much fun trick or treating this year – Leander really GOT IT (last year, he was still a little too young to completely understand what was happening). We had a beautiful night to walk around our neighborhood & the kids came home with overflowing bags of candy!
Other moments of note this month:
(1:02) We visited the train museum in Downtown Oakland, MD – which was a HUGE highlight for Leander! He LOVES trains & was absolutely mesmerized!!
(2:30) My sister, Ruby, painted Braelynn (and my niece, Alethea’s) faces (and then they painted hers) – as a pre-festivity before we went to a corn maze!
(5:47) Derrick surprised me with a little birthday party a few days before my actual birthday – I had ZERO clue – he got me really good!
(5:59) Nana & Papa came to visit!
(7:59) Braelynn loses her 5th tooth!
(8:21) Carving pumpkins.
We did visit Kennywood in October for their Phantom Fall Fest, but I compiled that visit into a separate video (I knew it would make our monthly video too long!) You can go watch that video here: https://youtu.be/6sXT85TUyIk
We also visited the Rock Maze outside of Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, but I kept that visit separate as well – that video will be coming soon!
Just in case you missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes – I used to say 5, but let’s be realistic here!) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our October looked like!
