Ahhhh August – the last month of official SUMMER before all the fall stuff (cooler temps, back to school, pumpkins everywhere) descends like an avalanche.
The biggest highlight of our month was that Braelynn OFFICIALLY reached 48″ tall & took her first rides on Phantom’s Revenge – a hyper coaster at our home park: Kennywood!
She’s been asking to ride it all summer, but every time we’ve measured her, she’s been just a smidge too short.
Well, we visited Kennywood on National Roller Coaster Day & once again, she asked if she could ride. We took her up to be measured & the ride op gave her the thumbs up to ride!!
In the week that followed, Braelynn rode Phantom NINE times (we visited Kennywood Park 3 times that week). Needless to say, it’s her new favorite ride & it’s SO MUCH FUN to have a riding partner on Phantom now!!
We also slowly started back to school in August, logging our first days of First Grade. After being super against the concept of doing “school” again, Braelynn has settled into our new routine & has turned the corner to love learning again. I might look at all the review we’re doing as being “too easy” for her, but it’s actually the perfect stepping stones back into “harder” learning & I’m so proud of how her attitude toward “school” has changed over the last few weeks.
(We homeschool, by the way.)
After taking the month of July “off” from our roller coaster travels, we were back at it – going on several trips in August!
We visited Dorney Park, Sesame Place, and Morey’s Piers (VLOG COMING SOON)
And spent 3 full days at the Cedar Point Resort (VLOG COMING SOON)
Just in case you missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is less than 5 minutes long!) video of my favorite snippets.
Enjoy a little peek into what our August looked like!
