Back in August, one of our best friends in the coaster “world” – Austin at Derailed Coasters – decided that he wanted to organize a Community Day at Six Flags Great Adventure. The purpose of the event was to bring coaster enthusiasts together, check all of the drama at the door, and simply have a wonderful day centered around everyone’s passion for roller coasters.
He presented the idea to Derrick and asked if we’d come and we said, “100% yes!” We love Six Flags Great Adventure, we love meeting other coaster enthusiasts (most of which we only interact with online), and we love Austin – so it was a no-brainer!
Austin did the most AMAZING job at organizing & putting everything together. He originally was simply hoping for a handful of enthusiasts to show up, and to his surprise, over 30 people gathered together (and more showed up as the day went on). It was absolutely incredible.
We had the BEST day at Six Flags Great Adventure! The group pretty much stuck together for almost the entire day – from riding the amazing coasters around the park, to eating lunch together, to a time of Q&A. Austin did the best job at not only pulling everyone in to this event, but keeping things organized, on time, and running smoothly (not an easy feat!)
We met SO MANY enthusiasts that we’ve only ever interacted with online. It was hilarious – we’d meet someone, learn their name, and then ask, “What’s your social media channel?” and then INSTANTLY know exactly who they were.
I got my very first ride on Kingda Ka on this visit to Great Adventure.
Braelynn rode Jersey Devil Coaster AND El Toro for the first time – it was blazing hot, but one of our favorite days ever at an amusement park!
Of course, what is a post without photos? Here are a few of the highlights of our day both from my iPhone 12 Pro and “big” camera (I have a Canon R6).
