I feel like we spent the entire month of September sick.
In reality, we didn’t, but we did spend a very large portion of the month under the weather in one capacity or another.
We kicked off the month celebrating my cousin Nate marrying his beautiful bride Tai’Asia! I was the photographer and Derrick the videographer, so we had a very busy day – but it was also so fun!
Leading into their wedding, Leander was fighting a cold. Derrick and I both felt like we were also coming down with colds, but successfully fought them off with vitamins and herbal supplements. Braelynn caught the cold in the days that followed the wedding, so the kids spent the first half of the month sick.
Then, in the second half of the month, Derrick and I both felt like we were getting sick again. Again, we hit the germs and infection hard, but this time to no avail – he ended up going to Urgent Care and getting diagnosed with Strep Throat, and since I had the same symptoms, I went down about an hour later and got diagnosed with the same thing.
And thus started a downward spiral for ME – Derrick and I both started taking antibiotics at the same time and within 24 hours, our sore throats were gone and he was feeling better, but I was feeling worse. Eventually I narrowed it down to the antibiotics and called and asked for something else to be prescribed to me – and that did the trick – I started (very slowly) feeling better.
UNTIL I started feeling worse again. Knowing that strep can wreak all sorts of havoc in the body, I started to freak out a bit when suddenly I woke up and had horrible pains in my legs, knees, and ankles. I suddenly couldn’t squat down and get back up – my muscles just refused to work.
This time, I went to the Emergency Room and thankfully, all of my bloodwork came back normal, so they diagnosed me with “reactive arthritis” – which is basically inflammation caused by a severe bacterial infection – like Strep Throat. It moves into your muscles and you basically just have to wait it out for it to clear itself (which all sounded strangely and ridiculously like what Leander went through earlier this year!) While his was flushed by an IV and lots of fluids, my “reactive arthritis” can take anywhere from 2-8 (?!) months to go away.
In other words, if you see me anytime soon, don’t ask me to sit on the floor for anything, because I just can’t.
Moments of note this month:
(0:37) Nate & Tai’Asia’s wedding day!
(3:04) Leander drew a picture of Derrick
(3:23) I deep cleaned Leander’s bedroom and we moved his bedroom around!
(4:06) Braelynn made the mashed potatoes for steak night all by herself – from start to finish!
(4:35) We spent an evening with friends from church – they have ducks and the kids were beside themselves!
(5:23) Happy birthday, Uncle Nathan!
(6:11) Derrick traveled for work in the middle of the month, so we dashed down to the Lake for a few days! We had such a beautiful, wonderful time.
(10:09) Braelynn’s newest dragon crochet creation!
(10:31) Lego night at the library
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our September looked like!
