September always feels like the END of summer.
From Labor Day (the un-official end of summer), seeing school buses out and around, all of our favorite amusement parks dropping down to just weekend operations – it’s ROUGH. We even had a few chilly days in the middle of September, leaving us wondering if we were going to skip fall and jump straight into winter!
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, and we still enjoyed a wonderful month.
We celebrated Labor Day at my family’s Lake House on Deep Creek Lake in Maryland (unknown to us that it would be our last visit there for the year – DEPRESSING). The kids did tons of biking (as usual), Braelynn worked on her skate-boarding skills, and they even had a lemonade stand (sadly it wasn’t as profitable as last year’s lemonade stand – but still a great experience!)
Otherwise, September went by in a complete blur mostly due to the fact that Derrick traveled SO much. With his new position at work (being responsible for a whole region of branches), when his company went through a MAJOR systems update, he had to travel to all of his branches to make sure they were all doing okay, adjusting well, and offering his support. It’s been a very stressful, busy month for Derrick and with him being gone so much, it’s been a stressful, busy month for us at home – but thankfully, we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and his traveling and working long hours is slowing down a bit.
Moments of note this month:
(0:16) MARBLES – if you know, you know (Leander swallowed one of these marbles just a week after I took this video, landing us to the ER, followed by a very anxious 7 days as we watched his poop daily for proof that he passed it – and he finally did!) Needless to say: the marbles have been put away.
(0:27) FAIR WARNING: if you don’t like snakes, don’t watch this part! In traditional Labor Day fashion, we had a snake attempt to join our swimming party at the lake – ICK. (He’s harmless, thanks to all the photos & videos we got of him, we were able to determine what kind of snake he was and while his bite would hurt, he wasn’t poisonous.)
(3:27) We visited the Rock Maze – one of our favorite places to adventure!
(4:59) Skateboarding!
(5:29) Leander’s room got re-arranged
(5:48) Braelynn got her own official Library Card!
(6:21) The kids’ lemonade stand
(8:19) Celebrating my Grandma’s 89th birthday
(9:22) Braelynn got invited to a “parkour” birthday party (spoiler alert, she had a BLAST)
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our September looked like!
