Happy start of a brand new year! Year 5 in-a-row that I’ve been creating these monthly family films of us doing “daily life”! (Wow, that doesn’t seem possible!)
January arrived and it became the month of SNOW – we had more snow on the ground for more days than we ever remember in January! (Which is fine by us! If it’s going to be winter and cold, there might as well be snow on the ground!) Sadly, it was never “snowman snow”, so try as the kids may, they could not get a snowman built (they still spent many hours outside playing in the white fluffy stuff!)
January is always a bummer of a month after the holidays, but we spend the whole month looking forward (and counting down the days) until Braelynn’s birthday! She turned TEN years old at the end of January (I still can’t believe it) and we celebrated in all the traditional ways (dinner out, crepes for breakfast, special surprises, and a big birthday party!)
Speaking of which, her party gets a film all to itself (because it would overwhelm our monthly family film!). Watch it HERE.
Moments of note this month:
(0:18) We celebrated Christmas with Derrick’s brother and his family right after New Years – the kids always LOVE seeing their cousins!
(1:37) Leander walked me through the process of him making his favorite sandwich (I love it so much, because I have a similar video of Braelynn making a similar sandwich from a few years ago!)
(5:07) We had a picnic in the snow and went sledding with my sister and her kids! SO MUCH FUN!
(6:39) Celebrating my Dad and sister’s early-January birthdays
(10:06) Braelynn’s birthday morning! Gifts and crepes before going to celebrate Zoe’s first birthday (Zoe and Braelynn share the same birthday!)
(11:33) Celebrating my sister Ruby coming home after completing her last round of chemo! She still has a long road of recovery ahead of her, but we’re so thankful that the chemo-chapter is closed!
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our January looked like!
