December always seems to fly by at the speed of light.
And when you spend the first full week of the month in Arizona – then the month REALLY flies by!
I feel like: December is a game. There are only so many weekends in the month of December leading up to Christmas and somehow, you have to figure out how to fit all the fun Christmas “things” into that puzzle.
Moments of note this month:
(0:01) December kicked off with advent calendars and our traditional Christmas book countdown!
(1:09) We always put our Christmas Tree up in November and put the lights on it – it helps as the days grow shorter and darker! But my rule is: no ornaments on the tree until after Leander’s birthday!
(4:31) My sister Amy, organized a “flash mob” for our youngest sister, Ruby, who is in the middle of chemo treatments. She did an amazing job pulling a huge group of us together and I still cry every time I think about this incredible night!
(7:26) Christmas officially kicks off every year with breakfast at Meme’s house on Christmas Eve! (Complete with our annual massive wrapping paper “snowball” fight.)
(9:41) Christmas Eve is when Braelynn and Leander exchange gifts with each other and we take “excited” pictures in their Christmas pajamas under the tree!
(12:00) Merry Christmas!
(19:02) Then it was off to my parent’s house to spend the rest of the day TOGETHER (we were ALL miraculously healthy, so we had the most amazing day being together with Ruby!) We played games, the kids decorated gingerbread houses, we ate lots of food, exchanged gifts – it was a great day.
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our December looked like!
And with that – another year of Abbey Archives wraps up!
I now have FOUR full years of our home videos documented – that’s crazy (and wonderful)! I’m so thankful and grateful for these videos that document our lives, I know I’m biased, but I think we’re pretty blessed!
