The weekend before last, we set off to ride our very first roller coasters of 2021 & what a great weekend it was!
Our main objective of this trip was to go to Sesame Place & activate our 2021 Busch Gardens season passes (and boy do we have big plans for those season passes!) I had 2 weddings booked to photograph in April, so the weekend of April 17 & 18 was the only weekend we had to make this trip! It was ride or die.
The weather was a little chilly, rain threatened all day Saturday (while we were at Six Flags Great Adventure) and the parks seemed overly busy, especially with it being so early in the year! Typically, we have found that at the beginning of the amusement park season, parks have lower attendance, and as the summer crescendos, so do park attendance numbers. In other words, (in our own experience, for parks in the North Eastern section of the United States – parks that close down during the winter months) lines are almost always shorter in April than they are in August.
However – that was definitely not the case during our mid-April trip to Six Flags Great Adventure & Sesame Place!
Busy parks are a two-edged sword: we’re thrilled that people are coming back out to amusement parks (after the crippling year every park had in 2020), but it’s also a bummer because large crowds mean long lines (and we hate long lines). Thankfully, we were able to get everything in that we needed before the lines got too long (which is another little secret of ours: lines tend to get longer as the day goes on, so rope drop your favorite “big” attractions, especially if you anticipate large crowds!)
Our only disappointment of the trip was that Oscar’s Wacky Taxi at Sesame Place was closed. When we were there 2 years ago, Braelynn was tall enough to ride, but she was a little too nervous to hop on. Obviously you all know that Derrick is obsessed with roller coasters, but he has always said that he would never force one of his children to ride anything they weren’t ready for – and so we didn’t.
Since she did not ride 2 years ago, I also did not ride, so we were both looking forward to this new credit (over the last 2 years, Braelynn has conquered much larger coasters than Oscar’s Wacky Taxi!) Unfortunately, it’s closed until May, so we were unable to snag the rides we were looking forward to – oh well.
Enjoy a little sneak peek into what our first trip of 2021 looked like!
(And, because what’s a post without photos? Here are some of my favorites!)
