Nate & Tai’Asia | A Proposal at Bushy Run Battlefield in Harrison City, PA

I was sitting at my computer, early one Friday morning, answering a few emails and getting a few behind-the-scenes business tasks completed before my children woke up and we started our day, when my phone dinged.

It was a text, from my cousin, Nate.
“Hey Kara good morning. Would you happen to have plans today?”

Nate is my cousin, but we aren’t really the “text-each-other” type of cousins – ya know what I mean?

So instantly, my heart jumped and alarm bells started going off as I quickly pounded out the reply:
“I mean, other than the usual take care of the kids and house stuff – NOPE.. WHYYYYYYYYY”

(I wasn’t surprised, but I could definitely figure out why he was asking.)

Nate and Tai’Asia met at Sheetz last year.
They were both simply getting food and passed each other in the store.

She instantly noticed him.
And knew that she just had to say hi. So, before he left, she followed him out to his vehicle and boldly said: “Hello!”
Well, the rest is history.

We first heard that “Nate’s got a girlfriend” one weekend at the Lakehouse early last spring. My sister Amy (the snoop that she is) had noticed some “suspicious” text messages popping up on Nate’s phone that he’d left unattended on the table (Word to the wise: never leave your phone unattended when cousins are around! It doesn’t matter how old you are – they will probably read any notifications that come through and leave you a bunch of selfies.) And just a few weeks later, Nate arrived at my youngest sister, Ruby’s birthday party with Tai’Asia.

It was a solid test, because we were ALL at Ruby’s party. In case you don’t know my family: between my siblings and my cousins, we make QUITE the large group (not counting spouses and children, there are 18 of us + my grandparents). So, Nate was very brave (and very confident) to bring his girlfriend to such a gathering.

Tai’Asia didn’t shy away from it though. She embraced the crowd and the chaos – she talked to everyone and was excited to meet Nate’s big, crazy family.
That’s when we knew she was a keeper.

Fast forward to March of this year and a quick series of “random” text messages – and that took me to Bushy Run Battlefield that evening to hide out and wait for “THE MOMENT”. It was EPIC.

(And yes! That means another Eichelberger wedding is on the horizon! We’re all so excited!)
