You’ve heard it said (and probably said it yourself) that, “The early bird gets the worm.”
Well, in this case, it’s, “The early bird gets the girl.”
Sara & Nate met at college. Both were attending Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania as education majors. Because Nate joined the Navy as soon as he got out of high-school, his college “career” was a few years behind Sara’s. (But spoiler alert: that’s okay & turns out to be a good thing!)
Part of their graduation requirements was to work with local after-school programs. They would help the teachers and staff with tutoring, paperwork, and other little tasks. At the time, Nate was a Senior and was one of those teachers. Sara, on the other hand, was working on her Master’s Degree, so she was a facilitator.
Both Sara & Nate are chronically early people. If they’re on time, then they’re late. They both love arriving early to everything: events, movies, dates, you name it. So, they suddenly both found themselves as the only ones routinely arriving 15-20 minutes early for their after-school program.
And in those 15-minute increments, they fell in love. Of course, it wasn’t quite that fast, but those 15 minutes of time before the other teachers and students would show up gave them just enough time to get to know each other, to realize that they loved the other person’s company, and to recognize that they were definitely looking forward to arriving early – more than usual.
So, we carried on that “early” habit by doing their engagement session at sunrise. It was early, slightly chilly, and the grass was still dewy, but it was perfect. Sara & Nate bought their little house earlier this year & it seemed like the perfect spot for their engagement photos – and it truly was! We rode up the road to a specific spot with the trees looming all around (and the sun just peeking in), a then joked about snakes and deer (and actually saw one – a deer, not a snake) in the field beside their house.
Their wedding is (so far) the first one on my calendar next year & I couldn’t think of a better couple to kick off my 2018 wedding season!
