2018 Norwin High School Senior Portraits in Irwin, PA
Norwin High School has always been (strangely) near & dear to my heart. I remember going to football games, homecoming parades, and basketball games. I had Norwin clothing I wore with pride. My Dad served on the Norwin School Board. All this might seem like fairly normal stuff, until you remember (or realize) that I was homeschooled. I never went to a single class at Norwin High School.
So, when Mason’s Mom contacted me about doing his senior photos & mentioned that he’d like to do some up on the school property, I was all for it. Norwin is a beautiful school, on a lovely campus, and we had so much fun walking around, “stealing” carpets, cracking jokes about the sports teams practicing below us, and enjoying the sunset up on the hill!
Before we made it up to Norwin though, we started at Mason’s house. I encourage most of the seniors I photograph to incorporate something into their photos that will tell the story of where they are as a senior, graduating from high school. For a lot of students, that seems to be sports. But for Mason – it’s his piano. Having taken lessons almost his entire life, the piano is a central pillar in who he is today. Practicing has given him discipline, the challenge of newer and harder pieces has given him perseverance, and the dedication to this one instrument has given him a tremendous skill.
So, we started out at home, centered around Mason’s piano.
(Yep, of course I asked him to play for me. He blew me away. Seriously, my jaw was on the floor – he is so incredibly talented!)
Then it was up to Norwin High School for some outdoor portraits!
As we were walking down to this particular spot, Mason’s Mom mentioned that they oftentimes see deer while walking up here. We all laughed that it would be so cool to actually see one & then lo and behold, we did!
More baby deer!
The sky was just so beautiful the night we were up at Norwin – so picturesque!
You thought I was joking up there about “stealing” a rug, didn’t you? Nope! We found this rug out on the sidewalk (drying? waiting to be picked up?) and we totally dragged it over to use it!
I photographed Mason’s family last summer – we did a combination of family portraits & anniversary portraits for his parents. In doing those photos, I learned that Mason’s Mom was totally into props (she made the “SENIOR” sign Mason’s holding in the very first picture up there). She also had several chalkboards last summer that had cute sayings beautifully written on them – which I found out at the end were hand-drawn by Mason’s Dad! He has gorgeous calligraphy skills!
Needless to say, we were all wishing that Dad could have been around to write on Mason’s chalkboard. Until Mason came up with the brilliant plan of writing on it in Japanese! He’s studied Japanese all thru high school and just came back from a trip overseas, so it only seemed fitting to write “See You Later” in Japanese on his chalkboard.
(I told you the sky was amazing that night!)
