I’m convinced that it takes the most special, compassionate, caring, and wonderful people in the world to work in the healthcare industry. Wait, let me be a bit more specific: to be a nurse. Because seriously – nurses are amazing. They work long hours, put up with so much crap, and in the end, do more for their patients than the actual doctors do (don’t tell any doctors I said that – shhhh). Nurses are just an amazing group of people that I’m constantly in awe of.
Marissa falls into that category – she’s a nurse. And thru her job, is how she met Adam.
Now, before your imagination kicks into overdrive & you dream up a romance between a nurse & her patient – I’ll just stop you right there. That’s not how it happened at all. In fact, Adam never enters the “healthcare” scene. It’s his Mom who bridges the gap. Let me explain (have you come back to reality yet? Trust me, I know your imagination went down a crazy path)!
Marissa & Adam’s Mom worked together at a long-term nursing home facility (don’t even get me started on the amazing people who are not only nurses, but work with elderly people). Altogether, they worked together for about 5 years. They became good friends thru the long hours. Even though they were good friends, Adam’s Mom failed to ever mention that she had a son – specifically who was single & about the same age as Marissa anyways!
About 3 years ago, Adam’s Mom hosted a large Christmas party and invited Marissa to come. Okay, now you can let your imagination loose to figure out what happens next! Marissa met Adam at that party & they hit it off. They chatted the whole night away. And as the party was winding down, Marissa asked Adam out.
The very next day, they had their first date. They went bowling and had a great time. Adam was completely intrigued by this forward, fun, laughing girl. And Marissa refused to let Adam’s quiet nature deter her. In fact, she found it equally intriguing. And during those early days of their relationship, Marissa pursued Adam – she just couldn’t stop thinking about him!
Of course, you can go ahead and imagine the rest of the story because last October, we got together to celebrate their engagement at Northmoreland Park in Apollo, PA! It was one of the very last gorgeous days of fall and we soaked every last little bit in.
