It seriously doesn’t get much cuter than a babe in a colorful cloth diaper.
I’ve already written at length about our decision to cloth diaper Braelynn, and yes, we’re still hard at it! I think my favorite is knowing that I can never run out of diapers, no emergency midnight runs to WalMart for us! I love that I can just toss a few days worth of diapers in the wash & in a few hours I’ll have fresh, clean, chemical-free diapers for my little babe.
A few weeks ago, Alicia – the Mama behind Mama Koala contacted me and wanted to know if we’d like to try out their cloth diapers in exchange for some pictures & a review! Of course, we were really excited about that & said absolutely!
We’ve reviewed Buttons Diapers before (love them!) and so, you might be thinking, “They’re cloth diapers, aren’t they all the same?” Actually – there is quite the wide variety in cloth diaper land! Honestly, it can all be extremely overwhelming if you are just starting out & doing research, trying to figure out if cloth diapers would be a good fit for your family. Trust me, I totally remember those days of trying to figure cloth diapers out from websites & coming up more confused than ever! If you want my honest opinion, that would probably be my guess as to the number one reason Moms & Dads shy away from investing in cloth diapers. There are all these terms that are thrown around, hundreds of different brands, some super expensive, some super cheap, and unless you have either really superb research skills or someone to help you along the way, I can definitely understand why it would be so easy to just shut down & give up.
Buttons Diapers are a 2-part system: you have the diaper cover and the insert that snaps into the cover. Mama Koala Diapers are Pocket Diapers, also a 2-part system. However, pocket diapers are more “all-in-one” – think of it this way: with diaper covers + inserts, you pull the dirty insert out, and can put a new insert into the cover, as long as it’s still clean. With pocket diapers, you take the whole diaper off and replace it with a whole new diaper. It mimics disposable diapers that way.
Mama Koala was our first experience with pocket diapers. From the beginning, we’ve always had covers & inserts (or pre-folds, I know, another term! it’s just another kind of insert) so we were super excited to try out pocket diapers!
Here’s our experience:
Daddy really loves these diapers. No folding, no snapping, no twisting, no making sure the insert wasn’t sticking out, just put the diaper on and you’re ready to go! The whole cover + insert process truly doesn’t bother me, but it is definitely more intimidating to Daddy, family, & friends who aren’t as familiar with how the process works. So, usually, if Mama was gone shooting a wedding all day, she would come home to find the baby in a disposable diaper, simply because Daddy had gotten frustrated with the covers/inserts and went the easy route.
Since getting our batch of Mama Koalas? Daddy has no problem changing these diapers! He much prefers them! He loves how easy they are, and I must admit, they are definitely super easy! I even went off and shot an all day wedding last weekend & came home to find the babe was still in a cloth diaper! WIN!
Overall, we’ve really enjoyed our Mama Koala diapers! They seem really sturdy, very well made. The outside cover material is so darn cute, the patterns are just awesome! And the inside of the diaper is so soft! The liners that you stuff inside the diaper (remember, 2-part system) are very absorbent and the best part: one-size! The liners have snaps, so you can either take the liner in to accommodate a newborn or you can let the snaps out to take you all the way to potty training!
I never thought that I’d be saying this, but it’s really nice to now have a little variety in my diaper stash. Now we have a mixture of covers + inserts/pre-folds, as well as pocket diapers, and it’s actually really fun! Depending on my mood, and how quickly I need to get the diaper changed, will determine which diaper I reach for (and now y’all already know which diaper Daddy will always grab).
The best part about Mama Koala is you can buy them on Amazon with Prime shipping!
AND they are having a Black Friday sale THIS WEEK! Take 35% off of all of their sets on Amazon, which is a fabulous deal (each set comes with 6 diapers and their inserts)! This deal is good November 25-28 and no code is necessary. Definitely go ahead and check them out!
Side note: So, I have found that I really enjoy writing about Mama stuff, like cloth diapering, my labor story, things that Braelynn is up to, so I’m considering starting a whole new blog simply dedicated to Mama stuff! Thoughts? Should I do it? I’d really want to focus it on being a huge encouragement to Moms (let’s be honest, Mom-life is hard stuff!), very educational (like going more in-depth into cloth diapering 101 stuff), and also fun (like the little projects and recipes Braelynn & I dig into!) What do y’all think?
I received a free set of pocket diapers from Mama Koala in exchange for photographing and writing a review on my blog. All opinions are truthful and entirely my own!
