My Mom & Dad have one [yes: ONE] wedding photo hanging in their house.
It’s hanging in the living room – it’s a nice, large, matted print of my Mom & Dad standing at the alter. It’s the formal shot: my Dad is wearing a grey tux with tails & my Mom is decked out in a glorious white lacy dress, complete with a hat that her veil flows from.
But that is the only wedding image hanging in their house. If you want to see more from my Mom & Dad’s wedding day – you have to pull out their wedding album. It’s a classic: white padded cover with thick, yellowed, laminated pages. Their wedding album tells the story [albeit a somewhat posed & contrived story] of their wedding day. It was all shot on film and so there aren’t a lot of “in the moment” shots – film photographers 28 years ago didn’t have the freedom to take 3-4 images of the same thing just in case someone blinked, or moved, or to “check the lighting”. It had to be spot on – and their wedding photographer was.
Pulling out their wedding album is almost like pulling out the old family Bible. You handle it with care, only touch it with permission with clean fingers, and it only comes out on rare occasions. It is a beautiful family heirloom that will be treasured for generations.
I love being a wedding photographer. Capturing those special moments for a bride & groom on their wedding day is my absolute favorite thing in the world. Further, I love giving my clients the digital negatives from their wedding day, to make prints to hang on the wall, give to Grandma, and show off to their friends. But, I’m not going to lie, being able to deliver a tangible item that you can touch has such an extra special meaning – and that’s why I offer gorgeous leather bound wedding albums!
Depending on the wedding photography package you book, an album might be included, but if it’s not: you always have the option to add one on! I love getting notes from my brides & grooms in the weeks following their wedding day, telling me that they just have to have one of these beautiful books to hold their memories in! Which is exactly what happened with Erica & Rob – we had such a fun time working together to choose the images and create the design! I promise: creating an album is really a super fun process! I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!
[side note: my albums truly do come in a variety of colors – I promise! It’s totally coincidence that every bride & groom I’ve designed albums for so far have chosen mocha covers!]
