Let me take you a few years back, when AIM was at it’s height – you put secret messages in your AIM profile & left creative away messages [colors, fonts, italics – yess] that mostly consisted of song lyrics. Remember those days? You were jealous of your friends who had flip phones – and even more high-tech: cameras on their phones! You’d probably upgraded your Xanga account to a MySpace account – Facebook? What was that?
Remember those days?
It was in “those” days that Mike & Liz met. They were both at the County Fair with separate groups of friends and Liz was there with a boy. In 8th grade, it’s rather difficult to label him as her “boyfriend”, but he was a friend and he was a boy. Their groups of friends meshed and when Liz wanted to ride one of the rides and her friend [who was a boy] chickened out, Mike stepped in to take his place & volunteered to ride with Liz. And, this is the part of the story where chicken-boy bows out & Mike steps in for a starring role.
They chatted and connected and exchanged AIM screen names.
It was young puppy love and they quickly became “official”. Puppy love blossomed into pure love and true friendship as they dated all through high school. They were set up to have a movie-perfect love story without any wrinkles. But then, in a shocking twist of events: Mike graduated and went off to college, leaving Liz, who had one year of high school, behind. Separated, they lost their connection. Months went by when they didn’t talk. Mike never forgot Liz though. He would send her a message every once in a while to say hi and ask how she was doing, but Liz never responded. He didn’t give up though and kept reaching out, attempting to re-connect. Finally, realizing that she had nothing to lose, Liz decided to write back.
And the rest is history!
