I read a quote recently that said something along the lines of:
This generation will be the most photographed, but with the least photographs.
As a photographer, that statement really stuck with me. And I’ve thought about it a lot. It was one of those thoughts I’ve mulled over while vacuuming, cooking, and taking a shower (you know, those mindless tasks that we do that allow our brains to wander).
This is the day & age of digital. Think about it: everything is very quickly moving into the “digital” lane. We are more often than not consuming digital music (Spotify, anyone?) and we are being encouraged to purchase our movies digitally (Hollywood is rewarding those who buy digital movies with early releases & extra features). Our computers are no longer sold with CD drives & the ports on laptops and tablets are slowly disappearing.
I love technology and I truly don’t mind the digital age. I’m not sure if I would be a photographer if we were still in the film era.
However, with everything moving to be more and more digital – the necessity of printing our photographs has slowly been easing up as well. After all, we take too many pictures to print them all, right? I mean, I remember having a little film camera – those 24 exposures were precious! I’d never just snap away like I do today with my cell phone!
But let’s put the personal photos we take on our phones in a separate category. What about the professional photos we have taken? That we pay to have taken? Do they exist somewhere outside of your hard drive?
I love digital photos. I’m obsessed with them, really.
Which is why I include digital photos with all of my wedding packages. I believe that my clients can handle printing their own wedding photos to display in their homes & give as gifts. We’ve all grown up in this up-and-coming digital age & getting photos printed thru an online lab is second-nature to just about all of us.
However, there is one physical product that I do offer my KAP Couples – and that’s wedding albums. My albums are unlike anything you can have made as a consumer. Sure, you can have books made of your images, but nothing at the professional quality level that I can offer as a professional wedding photographer. My albums are leather, their pages are thick, and the binding lays flat so that photos can go right across the middle of the page. I love my wedding albums & I’m always so excited when a couple either adds one on or books my wedding package that includes an album!
Which is exactly what Mallory & Joey did! They simply knew that they had to have an album at the end of their wedding photography experience with me & I am obsessed with how it turned out!
