[PART 1]
So, I have photographed many different types of “engagement sessions”. I’ve done the traditional ones where I photograph the newly engaged couple – celebrating the short window of time that they are each other’s fiance’s.
But, I’ve also done other “strains”: I did an engagement session once that took place after the wedding (the couple was engaged for such a short window of time that instead of squeezing in engagement photos – we did a “couples session” after the wedding). I’ve done several engagement sessions that included a couple’s family (usually their kids) for a short section of the session. And once I even did an “engagement session” during which a couple wore their wedding attire for the entire shoot (you’ll have to read the story behind that shoot here!)
Well, now I have another “strain” of engagement session I can add to my list: half-traditional engagement session & half-wedding portraits!
John & Lauren met online and from the very very beginning – things between them just felt so easy. Their conversations were easy-going, when they first met – there was no stress or anxiety, and their friendship developed so naturally & without-fuss.
From the very beginning – things just felt so “right”.
In other words: John & Lauren getting married seemed the most natural decision in the world.
I don’t want to spoil the end of their story (because that will come in “Part 2” of today’s post) but I do need to set the stage for their engagement photos. John was planning on proposing to Lauren earlier this year. But, you can probably use a little bit of logic to figure out that things didn’t go exactly as planned (thanks COVID-19).
In fact, not only did John’s proposal not go as planned, but they decided to cancel their wedding plans and simply elope. The future was just too uncertain. Playing the balancing game between wanting to keep their guests safe, in addition to dealing with all of the regulations (that seem to change on a daily basis sometimes) – they simply decided: “Why wait?”
And so – we did a half-and-half engagement session! I was originally going to post all of the highlights of our evening together in one post – but it got to be way to large (oops) – so I’m splitting it up!
This is “Part 1” – the “traditional” engagement session half & on Thursday, “Part 2” – the wedding portrait half will be published! Stay tuned!
If you can’t tell – Lauren & John are SUPER fun people! And Lauren specifically remembered this double swing-set from when she used to come to Twin Lakes Park in the past. So, of course, we had to go find it!
Stay tuned – Part 2 will be coming on Thursday!
