I never wish a rainy day wedding on anyone, but when it comes to Kyle & Joe, I knew if anyone could handle a rainy wedding day – it would be them! It was a fabulous rustic wedding day, full of laughter, pastels, baby’s breath, Coke bottles, & twinkle lights. The rain was just a little added luck tossed in for good measure & everyone rolled with it like it was a guest who never RSVP’d but showed up anyways.
It all started back on Kyle’s birthday though. Kyle & Joe’s birthdays are 10 days apart and Kyle was planning something BIG for Joe’s birthday! She kept telling him how awesome his birthday was going to be & how much he was going to love it. She kept teasing that he was going to be so surprised & it was going to be the best birthday ever!
Never one to be out-done, Joe realized that the only way he was going to top such a hyped up birthday was to propose. On their bucket list was to take a day and ride the Clipper up the Washington coast to Victoria, British Columbia (they were living in Seattle at the time). So, logistics all falling into place, Joe set his plans into motion.
After a day of sight-seeing, Joe took Kyle to Beacon Hill Park and took her for a walk along the beach. Joe asked Kyle if she was happy & she said that of course she was & turned the question back around to him: “Are you happy?” Joe answered, “Well, no, I could be happier.” If you know Joe, you know he’s a jokester, so when Kyle asked him why & his response of, “Let’s have some babies!” seemed completely in character! At this point, Kyle was walking slightly in front of Joe and she held up her left hand and reminded him: “No babies until we get married! I need a ring!” To which he casually responded, “Well, why don’t we get married then?” Kyle turned around, surprised, to find Joe down on one knee, with a sparkly diamond, actually being serious about the marriage question.
Of course, she said yes.
10 days later, Kyle surprised Joe with a trip to Disneyland! Neither of them had ever been there before, so Kyle was definitely right in teasing Joe that her birthday surprise for him was going to be really epic! However, Joe walked away from his birthday surprise with a button from Disneyland that said “Happy Birthday” and Kyle walked away from her birthday surprise with a diamond – I think Kyle got the better birthday present!
The details of their wedding day were simply incredible! And can we just talk about how adorable their invitations were?! I’m absolutely in love!
I love love love this – so Kyle’s Grandma passed away several years ago, but she always wore this certain hat. Kyle was able to pull a bow off of that hat & she pinned it to her wedding dress as a reminder of her Grandma all day long!
So, while I was with Kyle & her girls, Derrick was with Joe & his guys. They were – well – doing what guys at weddings do best!
They did clean up pretty fabulous themselves though.
And then there was a .. banana?
I’m sorry you guys – but this cracks me up every time I think about it!! If you know Joe – you know that this perfectly fits his personality perfectly! I’m sure he’s not the first groom to wear a banana suit on his wedding day, but I’m sure his company would be few & far between! It’s PERFECT though!
Oh – there’s that handsome guy under the banana!
Kyle & Joe wanted to do a First Look and even though it was raining just a bit, we went for it!! We went to the Robert H Treman State Park in Ithaca & it was perfect!
Check out this fabulous bridal party!
Remember Henry from Kyle & Joe’s engagement photos? He was at the wedding too & he tried very hard to steal the show!! Luckily – Kyle was too gorgeous for that to happen!
See? I told you she was absolutely stunning!!
And her bouquet!! I was swooning over it all day long!
And then it was off to the ceremony & the party!
Remember how I mentioned that it was raining? I love this shot Derrick got that shows just how much it had rained – look at the puddles on those chairs!
They ended up postponing their ceremony a little bit (partially because of the rain & partially because of a missing shuttle bus) and then they decided to go for it! Kyle really wanted to get married outside & thankfully it stopped raining just as their ceremony started!!
Henry!
It wouldn’t be family formals without a few tears!
The Barn at Willseyville was the perfect backdrop for Kyle & Joe’s wedding day! And Kyle’s decorations were perfectly on point!!
Kyle’s sister made 5 wedding cakes + the cupcakes for the wedding!! They all looked incredible too!!
Somewhere in the middle of the reception, a dinosaur might have showed up & stole the ring!
Since karaoke was such a huge part of Kyle & Joe’s relationship, it only made sense to have karaoke at their reception! Their guests were SO good – definitely seasoned karaoke singers!
And we ended the night with sparklers!!
