Have you ever ridden a roller coaster in the rain?
It’s definitely a unique experience – one you’re sure to never forget!
Depending on how hard the rain is falling, it can range from feeling like needles to stinging bees – and it’s not really the most pleasant thing in the world.
Sometimes though, when you’re traveling to visit amusement parks and ride roller coasters, you have to deal with crappy weather. We live just shy of 5 hours away from Kings Island, so a visit there means planning in advance, staying overnight, and crossing our fingers for good weather.
In August, we planned a long weekend at Kings Island. We’ve stayed at lots of hotels around KI, but this time we decided to stay at their new Camp Cedar – an RV campground & resort (https://www.visitcampcedar.com/). We stayed in one of their “cottages” (which we called our “tiny house”). We LOVED our time at Camp Cedar!
It is close to Kings Island, but not close enough to walk – they do run an efficient shuttle service (meaning we could simply ride the bus instead of dealing with parking at the park!) Not only did we LOVE our tiny house (it was the perfect size for our family of 4) but we loved the pools, the playground, the amenities, and the atmosphere of the camp – we almost didn’t want to leave to go over to Kings Island (almost).
On Sunday, our only FULL day at Kings Island, it rained on and off all day long. The good news is that that rain kept the large crowds at bay (with only the crazy die-hards and those who had traveled in visiting the park), the bad news is, we went from being wet, to dry, to wet, to dry, to getting caught in a crazy downpour, to dry. It was an adventure, to say the least.
We did get to watch Kings Island’s 50th anniversary fireworks show! We saw it on Saturday night and loved it so much that we came back to watch it on Sunday night! It was absolutely SPECTACULAR (outside of Disney, it was the BEST night-show we’ve ever seen!) We really hope they bring some version of the show back again, because they really outdid themselves.
We love Kings Island – it’s a beautiful, fun, wonderful park with a fantastic lineup of roller coasters, and a lovely atmosphere.
Of course, what is a post without photos? Here are a few of the highlights of our trip both from my iPhone 12 Pro and “big” camera (I have a Canon R6).
