Kings Dominion in Doswell Virginia is one of the most beautiful Cedar Fair parks. And in 2022, they opened a brand new (re-themed) section of their park: Jungle X-Pedition, featuring Tumbili – a 4D Free Spin roller coaster.
Now here’s the deal: we are roller coaster enthusiasts – we LOVE roller coasters.
But we are (kind of) terrified of 4D Free Spin rides. We rode our first variation of this model out at Six Flags Magic Mountain (Green Lantern: First Flight) and have been scared for life ever since. We literally felt like Green Lantern was trying to kill us and we barely escaped alive (it was the most painful roller coaster experience we have ever had).
In all fairness, Tumbili is built by a different manufacturer (S&S Sansei Technologies) and thus is a different beast than Green Lantern, but that didn’t make it any less terrifying to ride. In fact, we (gladly) skipped this new-for-2022 credit on our first and second days at Kings Dominion – with the excuse that the line was too long to wait through (it WAS a long line).
But, on our third day at Kings Dominion, we put on our big girl panties and hiked our butts on over to Tumbili as our first ride of the day.
Newsflash: it wasn’t so bad after all. In fact, we both agreed that we WOULD ride it again.
All in all, we spent three days at Kings Dominion (a few hours on Friday, half the day on Saturday, and a few hours on Monday) and had a wonderful time.
Twisted Timbers is still the star of the park (we LOVE that ride). We just love the atmosphere, the gardens, and the beautiful layout of Kings Dominion. Management there puts a lot of love and care into their park and it really shows.
ONE LAST THING: Kings Dominion has a new kids’ attraction unlike any we’ve seen – a free-floating driving ride! It’s like bumper cars, but spread out over half an acre of “drive-anywhere” freedom. Our kids were OBSESSED with this ride! The line did get (painfully) long due to how the attraction operates, but they did not care – they LOVED this ride.
Of course, what is a post without photos? Here are a few of the highlights of our day both from my iPhone 12 Pro and “big” camera (I have a Canon R6).
