Debbie & Kevin were planning a Christmas wedding. They had been dating for about 2 years and they knew that a wedding & marriage were in their future. No official proposal had happened yet, but both agreed that they thought they’d like to wait until the holidays to plan a unique, snowy, twinkle-light filled wedding.
That is, until this gigantic wrench was thrown into their plans. This wrench was in the form of red-brick and hard-wood-floors – in other words: a house.
They weren’t looking for a house. Each had their own apartment and they weren’t planning on looking for a house together until their leases were up later on this summer. But Kevin got regular emails alerting him of the local real estate market & when he glanced thru one of those emails back in January, he instantly knew that they had to see this particular house. He called Debbie & they made an appointment to see it. It was instant love. They made an offer the next day.
And therein created a problem. What were they to do? They couldn’t quite afford to own a home, while each still renting an apartment. Suddenly, the answer seemed clear: just get married.
So, wedding planning was jumped into on account of a house instead of a diamond ring. Speaking of the diamond ring: Kevin did want & intend to formally propose to Debbie. However, he didn’t want to use just any ring, bought from any jeweler. Debbie’s Dad had passed away some time ago, and Debbie had been promised the diamond her Dad proposed to her Mom with. With the wedding suddenly imminent, Debbie & Kevin asked her Mom if they could have the diamond. She said yes, and a quick trip was made to New Jersey to pick it up.
Kevin worked with a jeweler to create a new setting for the diamond and the night before we got together for their engagement photos, he made it official. He up lined candles to create a path from their new back porch down into the yard and then he called her out of the house.
This past Sunday afternoon, they stood in the same place that Kevin got down on one knee and had a beautiful, summer backyard wedding ceremony. They were concerned all along with what they’d do if it rained, but there was hardly a cloud in the sky. It was beautiful and laid back and exactly as they had envisioned.
Debbie & Kevin: thank you so much for including me in your lovely day. I loved that no matter how many things “fell” – nothing could dull your smiles or your laughter or your love for each other (that’s kind of a private joke!). Best wishes for a lifetime of all of those things in your new house together!
I loved Debbie’s birdcage veil & gown! It was so elegant!
THIS my friends, is a happy bride!
Debbie & Kevin choose to do a First Look. Due to the layout of their day and both the ceremony & reception taking place in their backyard, it seemed to make the most sense. I love First Looks & theirs was no exception!
So, thanks to their First Look, we were able to take all of their formal portraits prior to the ceremony! It was delightful!
Then it was back up into the house to hide from arriving guests! I loved these few moments that Debbie spent with her daughter, Livia!
They had a big tent set up in their driveway for the reception & I loved all the details and color Debbie pulled together!
This cake! So gorgeous!
After dinner, they celebrated with dancing and backyard games. The whole evening was so relaxed & fun.
And of course, we couldn’t end the evening without taking advantage of this amazing glowy sunset light that was peeking thru the trees right across the road from their reception!
Okay, okay, this is hilarious! I asked Kevin to pick up Debbie, like so, and he performed beautifully. But then, after he put her down, she suggested they reverse the roles & she wanted to pick him up. Being that we were right across from where the reception was, we had a large audience that all agreed that this would be marvelous! So, what unfolded is the images below – absolutely hilarious! (if you know Debbie, you’ll know that she absolutely loves the gym & working out & is super strong, so her picking up Kevin was no problem whatsoever!)
