Holiday Lights at Kennywood Park gets better and better every year!!
And (unfortunately for us, but fortunately for the park) everyone else in the Pittsburgh area seems to have figured out this “best kept Christmas secret” too.
We visited Kennywood Park for OPENING NIGHT of Holiday Lights last weekend and it’s safe to say: we have NEVER seen crowds like we saw that night. The lines to simply get into the park were bonkers – it took us over 30 minutes just to get through security and ticketing! And while that timeframe might seem “average” at a big Disney park – at our small, local amusement park – that’s bananas.
We missed out on so many of the “normal” things we do at Holiday Lights that opening night because the crowds were so thick. We didn’t even get anything to eat because the lines were so crazy!
Needless to say, we went back for “Round 2” the Friday after Thanksgiving, and while the park was busy, it wasn’t AS busy.
As roller coaster enthusiasts, the end of the regular amusement park season on the Northern East Coast always comes with a bit (okay, a lot) of sadness, but events like Holiday Lights keep us going back and enjoying the atmosphere, flat rides, and food that the park has to offer.
Kennywood’s display of over TWO million lights and the tallest Christmas Tree in Pennsylvania is simply dazzling. The production and spectacle of Holiday Lights gets bigger and better every year and we are always just amazed at how incredible the park looks!
If you’ve never been to Kennywood for Holiday Lights – we HIGHLY recommend it! It’s unlike any other Christmas Light display you’ve ever seen – complete with SO MUCH MORE!
If you want to go back and see some videos and photos photos from our previous years enjoying Holiday Lights, you can hop back to 2022 here, 2021 here, 2018 here, and 2017 here – even though we went to Holiday Lights in 2019, I didn’t write a blog post about it and thanks to the pandemic, Kennywood did not host Holiday Lights in 2020.
And because – what’s a blog post without photos – here are just a few (these are a mix of iPhone snaps & photos taken with my “big” camera).
